    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Wanted to say hi, I'm new to the forum and had a question. I'm alittle new to boa's and just recently picked up an Argentine. He is only a few months old and know they tend to be nippy. He is very vocal when I go to take him out then he is fine. Should I leave him be when he does this or just use caution and take him out?

He is certainly hoping you will leave him be.
It is not uncommon for young boas to be hissy, or even bite, when approached (some species and localities are worse than others). Just be gentle in your approach, and keep handling sessions short until he settles down.

In addition to what Harald said, I'd say start slow. Meaning only handle a couple times a week until he gets more used to it.

Yep ... if you always just leave him alone when he hisses, he'll learn that all he has to do to be left alone is to keep hissing... and if he's ok once he's out, that's a good sign. Lots of boas don't like being taken out of their enclosures, but once the process of removing them is done, they're fine. Don't let him scare you! :)
 
I would get a small hook,or something very similar and work with it on a daily basis.Nothing extreme,just reach in hook it and clear the cage. Transfer to full free handling and then return it to its cage.(takes about 1 min)I see good results(better attitudes) when handling in the early evening acouple hrs after dark.
The use of a hook is important !it will teach the animal its not feeding time every time the cage is opened.

Boa cant be trained,rather their conditioned by a simple form of muscle memory thru repetitive motion(s).Its individual traits will have to be learned as it matures

Pffft...ALL my Boas are trained. I get rats out of the freezer to thaw, and by the time I get into the living room, they are already waiting. Rats are still frozen solid. :thumbsup:

Perhaps it is you that is trained...and you don't even realize that you have become so adept at picking up their cues, you don't consciously register them any longer.
