    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I got these on Friday night.  I had called an ad in a local paper and the guy was getting rid of them because his new live-in girlfriend won't let him keep them.  When I'd spoken with him on the phone, he'd said they were 'just common boas, nothing special'.  I haven't probed them yet - want to handle them a bit more before I try that and let them get used to me - but I think they are both females (what spurs they do have are quite small and a bit recessed).  Both of them are real easy to handle and seem pretty docile.  The only bite he said he'd ever gotten was from the thin saddled one and that was a SFE.

I think this one is a Bci X Bcc cross.  She's only three years old and 6 feet plus (born 6-17-99).  She has speckles between most of her saddles and all over her face and a few small peaks on some of the saddles.  Any opinions on origin and whether or not she's a cross?

This one the guy got her second hand and thinks she's about 7 years old now.  She's about 7 feet long, give or take a bit.

Here's a shot of them together (this is what I saw when the guy opened the tub for me to see if I wanted to buy them).  Needless to say, I handed him the $100 and took them both.  In my book, they are both anything but ordinary. <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Hi,Dianne.. well first off,,let me say this,,,EXCELLENT DEAL!!! you got a great deal on those two!!! alright,,it is so hard to determine the locale of common and red-tails nowadays,, with all B.S. names people are giving snakes just to make extra money!!!  in my opinion (LOL),,i do think that there is a good (((CHANCE))) that the one is a cross!!!  i have a friend that lives in another state,,that bought what he was told was a ARGENTINE RED-TAIL BOA,,and i have seen pics. and it looks alot like yours!!! i a no boa expert by any measure,,but i do know a little bit... no matter what they are,,,you got one heck of a good deal.. try sending those pics to someone like Jeff Ronne(boaphile) and see what he says!!!  hope this helps...good luck!!!

This is a bit off topic, but is it considered good to have boa crosses?  I know in the dart community ppl are crucified if they even ask about keeping adults of different species in the same tank.  Why does everyone want to cross stuff.  Like the last post said.  It creates confusion.  I just don't get it.  I want PURE animals.

At least on the kingnsnake.com boa forum, they don't like crosses either. It's understandable, it's nice to know what you're getting. I don't know why no one seems to be breeding pure guyanans or surinams (note: if you are, i'd like one or two). I'm also into carpet pythons and there's the same hybrid mess going on with them too.
 
Just to clarify things, when I went to purchase these two, it was with the understanding that both were Bci/common redtails.  Needless to say, they are beautiful and I bought them.  I just couldn't pass up the opportunity on two such lovely animals and he HAD to get rid of them asap.  When the previous owner first opened the tub they were in, I noticed the one had some slight peaks on a few of her saddles.  She is also 6+ feet long at only 3 years of age, larger than I would think most Bci would be by then.  I asked the owner about her and whether she could possibly be a cross.  He said she was sold to him as a pure Bci/common redtail and that was what she is as far as he knew.  As for her size, he's been feeding her every two weeks since he first got her as a neonate, pretty large meals from what I gathered - so probably just this side of power feeding.

Most of the comments I've gotten regarding the pictures I've posted on the different forums lead me to believe that she is just a lovely Bci and nothing else.  If that is the case and she is NOT a cross, then she'll go into my breeding stock.  On the other hand, if she IS a cross, I do not want to breed her.  So to answer your question, in my book having a cross is fine if it's a pet but not for my breeding stock.  Either way, I've got a beautiful pet and have no intention of getting rid of her, I just wanted to know so that I wouldn't be unwittingly breeding any crosses and selling them.
