In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well lets see. I just recently bought my new friend Jonny Paper. He's a green iguana. Still pretty young. I've had him for about a week. I have some questions.

I have a nice new cage, heat lamp, heat pad, things to climb on, on one side. another side for him to retreat, a half hollowed out log, water and food dish. a cooler area. ive done most of the research on what he can eat and what not.

i gave him a few days to chill in his new home. but he freaks out everytime i go to pick him up. runs all over his tank like a lunatic. once i hold him he's fine. Im a little afraid of hurting him when i grab him. i read that taking him out for short periods of time in the beginning is good to make him used to being handled. but it scares me how he runs around and throws him all over his tank... spilling his food all over and everything.
-is there anything i can do to stop this?
-how often should i take him out and chill with him?
-and how long does it take for him to chill out and not freak when i go to pick him up?
- what are the chances of my hurting him by grabing him when hes freaking out... sometimes i have to hold his tail when i finally get him out of the cage cuz hes pretty strong and damn fast and hes so fast i cant get at his body cuz im afraid of really hurting him..

another Q ... i have a heat pad... and a heat lamp... ive been turning the lamp off the past few nites cuz i personally cant sleep unless im exhausted and its on...
- is that bad?
- is there anything you would recommend to solve this problem if it is bad ... i looked at a few pet stores for some sort of black light halogen lite to fix this but havent had any luck...

well . . . i think thats it for now... thanx

Put the lamp on a timer with a day/night cycle of somewhere around 14/10. Drops into the high 60's at night are not going to hurt him.

As for the running around, just give him time and regular brief periods of interaction with you to get used to his new surrounds. It might be a good idea to stay in the room with him when he is in the enclosure just to let him adjust to your movements, etc.

I would also suggest keeping your hane in the tank for a period of time so he will start to get used to you being in his home with him. I have to do this with crazy adults that people drop off on my door step, they never handled their iguanas so they then fear them when they try to touch the iguanas. It is bothersome at times but your ig will come around. Also, these little guys do not forget anything you do to them, I have seen igs that hate men because some guy abused them, but they are calm around women. Just a little tought for you.
