I purchased a corn snake about three weeks ago. It layed eggs today. It's only about 30 to 32 inches. I've been keeping snakes under a year and had no plans to breed. It layed five eggs. What should I do with the eggs?

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

You should set them up in a plastic food storage container on top of damp perlite. Make sure the perlite is just damp, not wet. You should be able to squeeze a handful and only a drop or two should come out. When you move the eggs don't rotate them, keep them in the same position that they are in now. Then place them in an area that stays between 78 and 84 degrees and wait 6-8 weeks.
You should try to post a pic as well. They maybe infertile and with a pic we'll be able to tell.

I should add.....
Don't buy the miracle grow perlite. It has added fertilizer that might damage the developing embryos. Also peat moss, coco fiber, sphagnum moss, and vermiculite can be used in place of perlite.

Actually Frank I think Matthew meant vermiculite not perlite. Both will work but Perlite cannot be squeezed out to get rid of the excess moisture. The proper mix of water to material is:
Vermiculite 2 parts vermiculite and .9 parts water by volume
Perlite
This is measured by weight.
1 part Perlite by weight to .8 parts water by weight.
On the perlite, this will seem like too little water but I assure you that it is correct

Wonderful! I would expect them to hatch soon depending on your incubation temperature. You are always surprised when you have the nasty looking eggs that actually hatch out healthy, beautiful babies!
