In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Thought I would share a few things.
First of all, I only got turned on by surfing the web looking for a turtle. My GF wants to make her courtyard enclosure into a turtle pet/pen thingy.
Since I have years of experience with turtles I said OK.
I am an older gentleman and probably have had, rescued, and even overwintered hundreds of turtles over the years. UNFORTUNATELY, I let them all go in appropriate places and hope they are still making more turtles. I have had everything from diamond backs to box and mud and everything in between. Never sold any and now I kick myself in the a$$ seeing what it will cost to buy one. LOL
Anyway, the enclosure is about 30 x 30, it will have a pond and has plenty of shrub type stuff, not for eating but for shelter.
I have spent untold hours trying to find a Eastern Box Turtle, I didnt say I bought one as a gift.
I guess I may ask a few questions, How many EBT would suffice for that size enclosure and I plan to dig a pit, actually I will have the dog do it, for over winter. Amazing what you can do with a post hole digger a dog and a bone.

Hi Bill! Welcome!
First, are we talking 30 ft or 30 inches? I assume feet. That amount of ground would certainly house several females. I wouldn't put more than one male in during breeding season.
Second, I'm not sure of Kentucky laws, but here in Missouri you can't keep, breed, or sell native species as a hobbyist. That could be your problem in finding one for sale nearby. Even if you 'find' one, you can't keep it. Doesn't mean you won't come across one, but just be careful advertising your plans. They are for sale on this forum occasionally, but the buyer is always responsible for knowing their own laws.

Thank You very much for responding. Over the past few weeks I have learned a few things. Still have some things to learn about KY. Strange how you can get a non-native species but cant keep a native species that poses no threat to the ecosystem.
I cant imagine if they wander into the 2 1/2 acre back yard, cant get out, and she feeds them there would be a huge problem.
I have no intention of breeding or selling. Your words are well spoken and well taken.
I have scrapped the courtyard thing unless she wants exotics. Then the problem would be how to overwinter them.
I have aquired second hand info on a breeding stock that is "wink wink and a nod". Glad to let go some males. But, I think I will get some more knowledge of the laws before I pursue this futher. Once again, TY.

If you had really "overwintered" that many turtles, you would not have to ask so many stupid questions. Buy your young chick a stuffed teddy bear. All God's creatures will be a lot better off....

I didnt ask "stupid questions", I asked how many EBT's would suffice for a 30 x 30 space, and this isnt a chat room. And I never said I knew what I was doing so I will deal with you as a man or what ever you are. By message or email, GL.
