In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

New toy to play with....

I'm setting up a couple of new features here and would like some of you all to do some testing if you have a few moments. Right now only one of the two is ready.

It's a photo gallery subsection. Not sure how it is going to fit into the scheme of things, but it may eventually replace those Photo Gallery forums in each discussion forum. I may just put links in place going to the photo gallery engine instead.

Anyway, the URL is http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/photopost/index.php. It is tied into the FaunaClassifieds forums database, so you should automatically be logged in when you get there. I've posted several of my own photos and it seems to work pretty well, but I would appreciate it if you guys could find some time to try to wring it out a bit before I open it up to the public.

This is basically a beta test, so please take note of anything that doesn't seem to work correctly and let me know about it.

I'll post a notice here when I have that second module up and running.

Thanks!

Well, has anyone else tried this out? I want to put this out into the general membership population soon, so please try it out and let me know as soon as you can.

Then I need some more feedback on the new classifieds system as well.

I like the system. It’s a very clean and easy way to host pictures on the fauna server. The layout seems to work pretty well and the stats are pretty cool. When I was posting some pictures I didn’t find any problems and it was very easy to post.

I don’t think I would replace the photo gallery forums. As with the leopard gecko photo forum there are a lot posts with pictures. If that forum was taken away all those pictures would be posted in the leo discussion forum and I think it would over power the actual help questions. A link from the photo discussion forums to this system would work great.

I think this system would be an excellent way for people to host pictures and post them. I don’t know if this was intent of the system but it seems like it would work well. Hopefully this enough feed back because no one else is here! :)

I hate to sound like a complete retard, but hey, might as well.....

I can't seem to find how to actually post photos or create albums! Please enlighten me.... maybe im missing something quite obvious.

Nevermind, I think I've got it figured out, but I do have one issue. I am unable to delete photos I've posted. While learning to use it I mistakenly double posted a few photos and it claimed I did not have the access when I went to delete my photos.

What I did was when I uploaded photos to the ball python gallery, I selected "members gallery" as the optional selection. Not knowing that uploads automatically are listed there it uploaded my photo TWICE. This may be a bug, or my stupidity, or a mixture of the two. Just thought I'd bring it to your attention. :)

Well you SHOULD be able to delete your own images. Can't say I have tested it from the angle of being a registered member, however. But I did set the admin option for that option to "ON". Has anyone else tried this?

The system is set to automatically create a user gallery as soon as they upload images. I can disable this if it proves to be confusing, however.

Let's see how it goes over and I'll see what seems best to do.

Thanks.

BTW, I deleted that photo you requested me to delete for you.

I like the idea of this feature. Maybe limited it though for a couple of reasons. Storage and bandwidth could increase dramatically if alot of registered users start using it.

My idea would be set up tiered accounts for this. Normal registered users can upload a small amount of pics, contributors can store more. Allow the option to pay a small fee to ad more pics. Kinda how ssnakess.com does it. Re-coup some of the expense this is going to bring.

I agree - a lot of bandwidth but if you've got it to spare might as well.

I like the fact that it matches the classifieds. I'm sure you could work FC.com into a new look with these new toys you are coming up with. I've not tried to upload or play with the photo section at all. I'm sure you'll have more than enough others trying it out. I like that you are keeping up with new things and giving FC a facelift now and then.

Has anyone tried to link their photos from here? I would guess it could be used as an online photo storage for those that don't yet have a place to stick their pictures.

Right now, regular registered members are limited to 1 megabyte of storage per user. Contributing members are limited to 5 megabytes. I think that is a reasonable cap for users. I am trying to make Contributor memberships as attractive as possible for people to anty up for them.

As far as bandwidth is concerned, I have 1 terabyte up, and 1 terabyte down per month allocated for the entire server. That should suffice for the near future, I think.

Thanks.

I've nearly hit my maximum already........ And I think I've got 29 640x480 photos, perhaps 30.

I have one more photo than you do... and as far as I can tell I've used up approximately 1 mb of the 5 allotted. Either your pictures are REALLY BIG, or you only have a non-contributing-member file size!

I've uploaded 32 pics... and I could upload another 128 pics of similar size before I would run out of space...

Chris just looked at your photo gallery (NICE animals btw) ... your photos ARE large, which is probably why you've maxed out almost.

My photos aren't nearly good enough to post in such great detail. One day I'll get better at taking the pictures... or I'll find a better camera.

Hmm, interesting. I didn't realize that you could upload streaming video files in this software. Pretty neat! Of course, it will eat up your disk space allotment REAL quickly! But still an interesting feature to have.

I like this feature very much. I have a huge photo gallery on kingsnake and would love to move it over here to Fauna. Have you considered offering purchasing options for users? I can't remember off the top of my head how much space I have over on ksnake but I know it's more than 5mb.

I can be flexible about this. Tell me what you think would be fair. I'm not out to get rich with this, so I am sure I will be reasonable to deal with for what you need. This will require that I set up a new member category, so maybe I need to think about a "super contributor" level membership.

I am in the process of linking the photo gallery system in with the discussion forums right now.

Has anyone tried doing external links to the images in the gallery area to see how it works as a general photo hosting area?

I just checked and I have 50mb of space on kingsnake. I THINK we pay $100 annually for that. I have actually been planning on moving all my photos over to my own website, but I would love to move them over to Fauna and contribute. I could just link from my website to my gallery here. What do you think? As far as what's fair for that amount of space, sheesh, beats me, Boss. Like we talked about before, offering an introductory price might be wise. I think any money you can raise via Photo Galleries and Forum Sponsorships are a good thing for the site, and the money can be used to make improvements or whatever.

I am going to test out the linking of images now-

Seems to link very nicely! :) I really like that feature, and in the long run it should decrease the amount of bandwidth used.... the only problem I see is if someone links to their gallery whilst discussing things in the BOI, then later they delete the photo, leaving it looking dumb in the BOI. But I'm sure that happens now when people host their own photos on their own sites and link to them.... later when they remove them, you get the little white box with the red X.

I think it's great, I enjoyed playing with the photo album yesterday!
