• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

NEWLY IMPLEMENTED picture quota?!?

I found it in my user cp. It is listed in the column on the left hand side of the screen under the title "Control Panel" . If you scroll down there is a section titled "miscellaneous", continue down and it will say "attachments". If you click on attachments it will list all photos you have as attachments and let you delete them. Hope this helps. :)

Eh, you're kinda slow this mornin Bill, hehehe. ;)

you're both contributing members, that's why you have it. Which is why when I get money in my Paypal I'm upgrading so I can do just that

Yes they can. I just checked.

Tonya, you have the ability to delete attachments in your user control panel.

You don't even have to be a paid member, evidently.

Do you see the whole list of everything you have posted on here as an attachment?

I thought that might be the case. Wouldn't make sense to have an admin option to restrict a member group from editing and deleting their posts yet allow them to delete attachments anyway.

I have to agree with Cory on this one. 10.00 a year is not much to ask for what you are getting.

The question I have is as it as been suggested to use a photobucket account, does this still tax on the space requirements for you Rich? I am only asking because I really don't know how it all works.

It does seem like a logical solution to just create a photobucket account. Just my two cents no offense meant towards anyone.

It still draws on the bandwidth of the site... but not the storage limits....

Sorry, but that isn't really true. Remote images don't draw on the bandwidth of my server at all. When you view a page on this site, you are actually drawing a web document from my server into your own computer for your browser to read and interpret. Local images, such as attachments, for this site are then downloaded from my server whereas remote images on other servers all called directly from that web page document in your browser from the server that is hosting that image. The only bandwidth used on my server is for the one line of code that points to the URL of the image.

Just thought I needed to clear that detail up.

BTW, if this thread vanishes sometime in the future, it is because I have moved it to the Feedback forum in the Admin section. That is where this thread really belongs anyway.
OK, so "abra-cadabra" already!

LOL Didn't you notice I logged offline right after I posted? I needed to reply, just had too. Man did you see that vette? LOL

I'm sorry too that we took this thread off topic. I've just been a nut for vettes since I was a kid.

Back on topic: There are plenty of places to host your images, most people on this site use photobucket. LOL I just checked my disc space on my server, I've used 245 out of 300. Time to add some more, or start deleting images.

lol yeah i did notice i was just kiddin with ya because i was bored and it was like 3 in the morning. and yes that is a very nice vette!
sorry for getting off topic again!

so for me to upload just one more picture it would cost me $250 dollars.

Rich, it would be cheaper for me to just buy you a new harddrive.

but don't take my word for it. check it out!

Ahhhhh.........but what would it cost to put up your own website on which to host your shiney new hard drive?

Well....blame it on Dennis, he said you could do it. LOL.
LoL, I logged on under another screen name and all the buttons were there.
I didn’t have any attachments postedto actually delete one but it looked the same.

geez...

All the pictures I've posted in the past were only done with the intention of contributing to the building of this site. I thought it was helping to build the forums.

Now that I want to place my first picture ad I can't cause I'm over the limit. !! lol.

Delete would be helpful.

Yeah, I know. It wasn't an easy decision to make. But nothing eats up hard drive space more than images, so I had to draw the line somewhere. If I have to wind up getting a bigger hard drive put into my server because of all the images being posted, I think the best thing to do is to at least have paid members who are helping to pay the way here get the larger benefit of use out of this system.

Heck, many of the larger message board systems I have frequented (non herp related) don't allow ANY attachments at all. And I am certain I know the reason for that decision being made.

that is exactly my view. and it seems like visitors of this forum are told often to do a forum search before posting a new thread and asking a question. what if i delete an old picture so i can post a new one and that picture is now missing from that post. how is a user supposed to fully understand the post if the images are missing?

however its not a huge deal. photobucket is free and ill just link my images to them.

i don't mind contributing to this site. i just wish it was left to me and not forced by removing more and more things that were originally offered for free. i still have a signature that carries a dead link. i can't even edit my signature. when i can afford it i plan to get a paid membership. in the meantime, ignore my current signature, LOL!

Sorry, but I have to face compromises with every decision I make. As in all of the rest of them, there was no perfect solution for this one either. Some people will never even use 1 megabyte. Others could use 100 times that amount. Well, I had to draw a line between what I could offer for free, and what is provided for those people who are chipping in financially to help this site keep chugging along. Does that seem unfair?
