In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Nicholas P. Heistan CNH Reptiles

I realize there is more to the story than what I am breaking it down to. However, the part I am pointing out is what started all of this. Like everyone said, I could have reacted differently. But I was only going off of the information I had at the time, and the information as translated by me was that I had to pay more before he was going to ship the animal. Even though it came out later that it wasn't his intention, or so he says, the fact is he decided to still keep the deposit. I'm not here to get my deposit back, thats water under the bridge. Nobody here can help me get it and I don't expect anyone to. I just wanted to show Nick's way of earning $35 from his business and let others decide if they want to pursue a transaction with CNH Reptiles.

I understand your point about the fees - and have from the beginning - but that phrase was couched in a statement that he had to review your payments. Before I cancelled the transaction, I would have asked for clarification...but I'm the kind of guy that would report him to PayPal without hesitation for making that request; so I would want it in black and white so he couldn't deny it.
As far as your "nonrefundable" deposit - did you, or did you not complete the payment plan within the agreed upon time? If you did not, as suggested earlier, he would have been well within his rights to refund all but that deposit when you failed to live up to your end of things. Once you completed the payments, that sort of goes up in smoke, though. FWIW, even though my published terms had specific wording about nonrefundable deposits and failure to complete a payment plan, I never kept a person's money when they backed out of a deal. If your seller has any sense, he'll come to the realization that it just isn't worth it.

If I sold you something for $100, and you sent me the $100, then I responded "its $100, not $100 and I pay for shipping," would it not be reasonable to assume that I am expecting you to pay for the shipping?
That's a lousy example. I wouldn't expect shipping to be included unless that was stated...and, if I wasn't sure, I would ask before sending payment. That isn't the case with PayPal fees. If you want to play, let's compare apples to apples by putting me in your same situation...and I'll just refer you back to my response to that at the beginning of this post.

We did not have a set time for me to pay it off. After I sent the deposit (well after the quote, after shipping agreements, after a days worth of communication) I told him I'd probably have it paid off by Oct. 16th. That day came and I sent him the 2nd payment. He asked when I could get her paid off and I told him two weeks from that date, which he was fine with, but I also let him know if I ran into any money I'd send it his way. Within that same week I sent the remaining amount. At no point in time did I have a set pay off date, I just offered him a round about date that I could get him the money. He was not concerned with how long it took at any point in any of our conversations. Thats just his mother playing CFO trying to find faults in my story.

Pretty lackadaisical approach toward a payment plan - it's nice in a way, I suppose; but there's no structure on which to base anything. According to the guy's profile here, he's 30 yrs old...wonder why his mom is involved? And claiming to be the financing officer seems pretty amusing from what little I've seen of "CNH Reptiles"...does that mean she buys his reptiles & gives him an allowance?

As long as I'm here, I might as well address the other side...

Elaine Elking, as "Financing Officer", could you please verify if the payment plan (such as it was) between Shaun Jones and CNH Reptiles was open ended, as he described? I'm aware that his statement contradicts yours - which was that it was supposed to be paid by the 17th - so I'm actually hoping that you will reaffirm your earlier post. Be aware, though, that I will ask you to post the payment agreement should you choose to make that claim. Surely no business with a financing officer would allow payment plans without defined terms and end dates.

BTW - I did a business search in OH, and found no listing for CNH Reptiles or Nicholas Heistman

My apologies - I submitted that last post prematurely...

Ms Elking, as I mentioned, I was unable to find the business listing for CNH Reptiles - perhaps I was searching under the incorrect name. Could you tell us under what name it is listed? Is it a DBA, LLC, INC, or ____?

Oddly, the weebly page indicates that Nicholas is a monthly vendor at, and includes a link to the site for, the Cin City Reptile Show...yet he isn't listed on the regular vendors page. Probably an oversight, I'm sure; and not even worth mentioning.

So what I am trying to figure out is Elaine......so your the "CFO?" In every business I have ran or even worked at, CFO managed money not PR. The manager or owner handles all issues and has the final say. CFO's over see accounts received, accounts payable, balance overhead, keep up on all new tax laws, etc. I do notice that on your website you show your collection to be 8 animals, which very well could be more just not shown. I noticed your display cases were full of animals that go up to $125. I am assuming either you have a great deal of other products/services that afford your company a "CFO" over such smaller companies like BHB, Snake Keeper, and the others that have employees or spouses that do it. So why can the (assumed) "President" of the corporation come forward and defend "his" company and "his" decision/policy on this situation? Unless he is still hunting (large game in Africa while the helipad is being painted on the yacht), which is understandable.

Damn Harald.......I didn't catch that! I was too busy typing slowing while you beat me to the punch. All I guess I can say is

:bow01:I'm not worthy!

To shed some light, on Cin City's regular vendor list, they only list those who have paid/reserved for an "x amount" of months ahead of time.
If you are a regular vendor, but pay/reserve month to month, you are not listed on the regular vendors list.

....

Harald, I'm certain that was an innocent faux pas, since his last name is "Heistan" and not "Heistman", ie, man who commits a heist. :D

Still amused that this guy actually brought his mother in here to post on his behalf as the "Financial Officer". Yeah, as others have expressed, I suppose the "CEO" is much to busy to address the issues himself.

Note to all 3 parties (mom, adult son and buyer). Cover all your butts. Get it all in writing prior to a sale. Ask questions and make all terms and agreements transparent.

Don't expect others to pick up fees that you are responsible for; intelligent, responsible vendors already know how to compensate, and won't try to cheat a buyer or bypass the rules/regulations.

Don't jump the gun and freak out just because you don't get an answer from the party you are dealing with immediately. Step back, breathe and give it a reasonable amount of time before you freak.

Nicholas Heistman/Elaine Elking refund the $35.00 and be done with it.

Nick, search out responsible, honest vendors here on Fauna for whatever you want to purchase. And don't act or respond hastily until you know for sure what is going on with a transaction.

Just a slip; but one that my fingers seemed to want to make, considering how many times I corrected it. My apologies to Nicholas, even if he can't be bothered to come to this thread. (What adult involves his mom in this crap, really)

See how easy it is - it just rolls off the fingers, doesn't it :yesnod:

Good advice for everybody, including Nick...but I think you were addressing Shaun?
