In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

No monitor posts? Any reason?

Obviously the k i n g s n a k e forum is a joke, surely somewhere else would pick up the slack. Varanus.net rules and is awesome, but some newbies might be overwhelmed. I'd have thought that monitor discussion would be rampant in the States. Shame its not. They are great lizards for those that have progressed past Leos and Beardies 10+ years ago.

Thanks Jeff for the website info varanus.net theres lots of good info. there and that site brought me to goannas.net its not as good but good info to.

Nice pic Jeff. What monitors do you breed. The only ones I did were savannas and niles. But hopefully with these web sites I can chose a good one to start with. The only thing I did not like about varanus.net was the fourms how it said this is not for newbies they should go to kingsnake I think that sucks are they to good to answer basic questions If anything they should want so called newbies there so they don't end up hurting or killing a monitor. I work at a pet store so I know what its like to answer a lot of basic qustions but I need to so what ever they have gets the best care. Please let me know if you come across anyother good sites.

I agree.....

Varanus is NOT for newbies, and rightly so. There is a TON of info out there on monitors and people should learn to walk before they run. Varanus is for those who already know how to run, bu want to run better and faster! :D

The monitor discussions on this site are often useful, you should check them out:

http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=57

As for me, I've just started out with dwarf aussie monitors and I'm working to my ultimate goal of a several groups of prasinus and beccarii . My main hobby is boas and pythons.

See you around man, nice chatting with you! :D

Hmmmmm

I'd like to point out to everyone that this is a calculated, shameless plug for sSNAKESs. Jeff Favelle is a moderator for sSNAKESs, and this is tantamount to poaching other fourms for email addresses in an effort to spam and attract new users. (another thing that sSNAKESs has done before)

The manner in which he tries to show himself as just another monitor enthusiast who is looking for some info, then finds "the best place" is misleading and insulting.

Take this info as you will.

...

Fine then, let's hold the monitor discussions here. Don't come to ssnakess.com. I don't care. I have no money or anything involved in the site. I want to talk monitors. Kingsnake is a joke, and I already frequent varanus.net (the BEST monitor spot on the planet), but I'd like to get some more discussions going. That's all. Take a pill, guy. Are you sure you're not American? maybe you should carry a gun around if you're so paranoid?

Monitors laid on Wednesday, with more on the way!

Another nice PIC. what kind of monitors are they from? You gonna sell me some nice cheap babies LOL. As far as you posting that web site I see no problem with it. Uffern if this bothers you go on to ssnakes and in a post slide in faunas address. I could be way off here or not know the whole story but I don't see the harm besides I've been on that site and fauna is way better! no offence meant Jeff. Let me see some more pics!

HA HA! I am an American, and I do carry a gun around. And just because I am paranoid doesn't mean I'm wrong.

And Ian, you are right. There is no harm in it. All kinds of sites are mentioned on this board.

And you are both right. *pill taken* It is not important enough to get pissy over. I'm sure there won't be a mass exodus from ssnakess to here, but I am thinking of getting into monitors, and I will do my part.

My apologies to all.

No need for apologies you spoke what was on you mind so don't worrie about it. So what kind of monitors are you thinking about getting? I want to get into some type of monitors for breeding but i'm not to sure wich yet and i'm not to sure if I should get babies and grow them out for breeding or find adults.

We keep savannahs, dumerils, mangroves and whitethroats. All are wonderful creatures some mre skittish and cranky then others(mangrove)I personally think the best monitor to breed is the ackie.Very high success rate.On the babies or adults question,it all depends on your reason on getting involved, merely to make a profit or to learn and experience things along the way.Neither are wrong but I did a little of both.I prefer to start with babies.Merry Christmas guys!!!!

....

Faunaclassifieds and ssnakess are not even the same type of site. They are clearly different entities that revolve around one common thread, and that's reptiles. But the similarities end there. Faunaclassifieds is concerned with online classifieds and background checks. THAT'S it! There is more husbandry info about reptiles in Teen People than there is here. And that's fine, that's not what this site was intended for. But my constant search for knowledge and discussions about my passion (reptiles) knows no boundaries so that's why I put out the invite to discussion . I care not where it takes place though. Cheers. :D

As for me, I'm into ackies, kimberlies, storr's, and eventually prasnius.

The eggs were from ackies and were laid on Wednesday.

Thanks for talking! See you around!!

I hope we can turn this forum into a good place to have monitor talk. Kingsnakes has turned into the same old questions about savannahs over and over. We breed argus, waters, freckleds, and ackies. I want to work with mangroves also, but my male is to big! Here is a pic.

Hi Tony,

Hows the borneo waters doing? Dont suppose you have a eta
on those eggs?

Also, could you post a pict of the enclosure(s) for your adult waters?

We are working on a layout for a animal addition that will be attached to the new house we are going to build. I had factured in a corner of the animal room being dedicated to a water(or waters). As I have it right now it would be 12'x12' area with a 6'x8 pool/waterfall in the corner. This would leave 96sqft of space outside the pool. In your opinion would this be adequate for just
one or would 2 waters live comfortably in this space we have planned?

Good luck with the breeding and God Bless

That would be more than adequate for 2 waters. We have 1 six foot male living in a 8'X6'X10' with a 8'X2'X2' water area and a 8' X4'X2' land area. The land is filled with soil the entire 2' so he can also burrow. The entire back wall is rock and ledges so he can climb to the very top and rest under the lights. I don't have any pics right now. Sorry. And the eggs are still doing good. We have 4 left. They should be hatching in 3-4 more months. Thanks.

Hi guys.I have to disagree. Its not Kingsnakes fault about all of the savannah posts.Savannahs are an inexpensive monitor that almost everyone who has monitors started with at one time.I still have my 3.But I also keep whitethroats, dumerils and mangroves. But there are still times I will go on and ask about my savannahs because their health is just as important to me.I doesnt matter if it cost $20.00 or $200.00,if you have a love of monitors you should care for each species. Thanks Take care guys

I am not saying that savannahs are bad, just most of the questions. It gets repetitive when people ask the same questions over and over. I don't even want to count how many times people ask "What type of bedding should I use for my savannah?" And if they would have looked 10 posts down they would have seen the answer. I just used savannahs as an example.
Sorry for not explaining myself.

Thanks for info Tony.

In reguards to the sav. discussion , I think on every varanid classified section (whether it be here on fauna, or kingsnake, etc..) and at the top of every monitor forum there should be an extensive care sheet in BOLD LETTERS etc... If some one ask the
"basics" then direct them to the care sheet or say nothing at all.

I think one thing that must be kept in mind at all times is that alot
of these people, kids, etc.. are our monitors future. The more people are welcomed into the varanid community the better off we are!!!!!

God Bless
Ben:)
