In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This is a transaction that is already taking place, but I thought it would be perfect for the T.A.R. Board. :)

Background: We have a lovely Ball Python but are not really "into" ball pythons. When a local herper found out I was thinking of selling her he really badly wanted her. I told him I wasn't sure if she was a she, and that I would sell her for $150. He brought some friends over, they sexed her, (four scales) and determined she was a female. This guy did not have the money right away. He also tried to talk me down to $125, but I knew that a breedable female Ball Python can return her value quickly so I stuck to my guns, knowing that it was a GOOD price. The deal was: Pay by August 1st and she's yours at half the going price. After that, deal is off and I'll put her up for sale.

August first rolled around, and there was no phone call. I was conflicted. I knew I could sell her for a lot more, but I had made a promise. He had broken his side, but I wanted some confirmation that it was okay for me to sell her, so I sought opinions here at Fauna Classifieds. Before posting any "for sale" advertisements, I thought I would see if anyone in the chat room had a strong opinion on what my obligation was. (yes, I KNEW that my obligation ended when he didn't hold up his part of the deal, but I still wanted someone else to validate my own opinion).

The Details of the Transaction: In the chat room, I spoke with several members, including Gib. They of course agreed that I was completely in my rights to try to sell the snake. Then they wanted to know more about the snake. I told them about her being probed, and also guessed her weight. Since they wanted something more accurate I took her out and put her on my postal scale. 3 lbs 1 ounce. Gib immediately said, "heck, I'll take her now for $300, where do I send the money?" I wasn't sure if he was serious, so I gave him my paypal address. Two minutes later I had the money! During the course of the chat conversation, I did explain that it would be perhaps October before I would ship her out to him. (it's HOT here in AZ). He had no problem with that. I promised to feed her very well and keep her fat and sassy, maybe even fatten her up a bit.

So for the time being I have $300 in the bank, and one fat and sassy (getting fatter) Ball Python female waiting for a cool day to be shipped out to Gib to pair up with some very fancy male Ball Python and make pretty babies.

The only issue undecided during this fairly quick sale was the cost of shipping. Other than that the ball (literally) is in my court, as I wait for a cool day here in Arizona to ship her out. Meantime she's eating up my entire rat breeding colony and gaining weight!

I hope I have been thorough. I'm mostly recounting from memory as this entire transaction took place in the chat room, and I was booted from chat before I could save the chat log.

I'm going to now invite Gib to come here and add anything to the agreement that is necessary to get it all ironed out and specific. I have to say that so far he is the "fast" one as far as his side of the bargain, no quibbling, once he wanted her, he paid for her without hesitation. Now he only has to wait for me to actually ship her out.

Here's her picture.

Not much to add really...Sasheena covered it pretty well..

I figure if ya want something got Jump on it...and i hate to see ppl get talked down for something worth alot more than what was being offered..LOL

just waiting for a shipping date and just let me know how much ya want for shipping adn ill get it to ya ASAP(i forgot bout shipping too LOL)

I cant wait to get her this fall!!

and THANKS!!!!

Oh yeah a quick add on...

First time ive seen the snake adn WOW shes a hottie!!

I'll find out the exact cost of the shipping and let you know. You can pay after I ship her. Still going to be a while. I'll probably just plan on shipping her the week of October 17th (I'm vacation that week) Should be cool enough by then. Glad you like her. :)

Who will decide when to ship (or is it going to be a shared responsibility)? In the unlucky event of a DOA what are the obligations of both? Is Sasheena guaranteeing a live arrival? Will she return the full amount in the event of a DOA? In that case who’s paying for the shipping?

Regards.

Since the temperature extremes are more prevalent on my side of the world, I planned on being the one to decide. I now plan on shipping on Monday October 17th unless Chris wants me to watch the weather more closely so that I can ship her the moment the temps drop to reasonable. Otherwise I can pretty much guarantee that temps will be fine at that point.

I would be interested in hearing Chris's thoughts on DOA though. My hope is that temperatures will be decent on both sides of the country when I ship her, and she'll be very well packed, shipped overnight probably via UPS. Barring terrible unforseen circumstances, DOA should NOT happen.

Chris, your thoughts?

Hmm...in case of a DOA I would only want a refund for the cost of the snake..

Shipping costs no matter what are my resposibility

So even in the case of a DOA i would still cover shipping costs becuase there couldnt be a DOA if i dont pay to have her shipped LOL

Chris,

Just to cover all bases. I would assume you will inspect the snake upon arrival and let Sasheena know of any concerns you might have with the animal. What I’m trying to state here is that there is no other guaranteed implied beyond this “live and healthy arrival guarantee”. It seems both of you have covered pretty much everything to your satisfaction. Do you have each other contact numbers just in case?

Regards.

If he is there to receive her and can provide photographic evidence of DOA, I'll refund the money I was paid for the animal.

I'm guaranteeing her to be 1500 grams (probably a little more but nobody would complain about that), and when probed she probes to four scales. She is free of any symptoms of disease. Once she arrives alive and healthy, my part of the deal is done.

I have the information provided by Paypal when he made the payment, and I will email him my phone number. (just sent it)

to recap:

One 1500 gram ball python female age and origins unknown (pictured in this thread) who probes to 4 scales will be shipped on October 17th. Cost of animal $300 (already PAID) and the cost of shipping only to be determined at the time of shipping and paid for by Chris. The animal is shipped with a live and healthy arrival guarantee as long as someone is there to receive her. In the event of a DOA the purchase price of the animal will be refunded immediately via paypal. Shipping to be covered by Chris regardless of her status upon arrival.

I think that covers it?

Should have added:

Sasheena and Chris,

Thank you very much both for your cooperation in starting this forum. This thread will be left open until you are bout to ship in case any of you feel you need to add anything else to your agreement. I hope everything goes great with your transaction.

Kindly,

Dan

hmmmm...

was this transaction ever completed???

Not yet. :)

The temps here are still hovering around the 100's and I don't like to ship while it's so dang hot! I've promised to ship on October 17th and that is when she will be shipped. In the meantime she's eating up all of my rats! She's one hungry girl! I wouldn't be surprised if she's put on a lot of weight since I first weighed her. But that's okay!

My plan is to pack her up to ship her out on October 17th. I plan to take her to the UPS store shortly before they ship (will call them to verify) and then ship overnight for 10:30 am delivery next day. I'll take a picture of the box and how I pack her and post that and the tracking information once I get back from going to the UPS store. Hopefully, the next day Chris will be able to post that he got a wonderful healthy unstressed BP that meets the descriptions and discussions on this thread! I hate shipping, so I've put off thinking about it even until the night before I send her off! I think I'll be more stressed than she will until I hear that she has arrived at her destination.

Well October 17th has finally arrived! I am going to be going into town later today to ship my Ball Python overnight to Chris. I'll be shipping her UPS (hopefully) - in an insulated container, no heat or cold packs. Temps are supposed to be in the mid to high 80's here, but it seems more mild than that. Temps are supposed to be in the mid to high 70's in Kentucky. I'll take a picture of Lucille before I ship her off showing the method I'll be shipping her, the box, etc. I've been feeding her one small rat a week since I sold her to plump her up. Her last meal was also supposed to be one rat 12 days ago... however hubby gave her a second rat so it was instead two rats. She's now anxiously looking to "heaven" for a few more good rats. (since I drop them in through the top of her cage, she always expects rats to appear from the sky). I've been feeding her live, stunned, pre-killed and frozen thawed. Usually she gets stunned ones, but of course hubby just dropped the live rat in with her. She doesn't seem to be temperamental over the condition of her prey. She just seems quite voracious!

In any case, I'll post pictures later today when I've prepared the package. Hopefully Chris will post tomorrow with the glad news that the snake has arrived!

All right! Finally she is on her way!

I opened up the cage to pull her out to put her in the bag I had for her and she immediately latched onto the bag and constricted my wrist. She's HUNGRY. When she realized she had a mouthful of cloth she finally let go and allowed me to put her in the bag properly. (BEWARE when you open it up, she's not going to be happy!). I tied a knot in the bag, then used hubby's duct tape to tape over the knot. Then I put crumpled newspapers in the bottom of the box, and placed her, in the bag, on top of the newspapers. (Picture shows the bag before I taped the neck of the bag shut). I put the lid on the styro box and taped that shut as well, and then taped the box shut.

Then off we were to the UPS store. I have this really difficult "honesty" streak in me so when the lady asked "what's in the box." I told her. Big mistake, of course, and she said "we can't ship that or we'll be fined!" WHATEVER. I didn't want to pay the $74 shipping anyway! Jeepers!

SO we went to a shipping store (the one I'd been to the only other time I shipped a snake), and they didn't ask what was in the box. Just "$64.00" for overnight shipping. No questions asked. Pleasant people too. I remember them being pleasant the last time I shipped a snake. I think I'll go with them in the future because the closer ones were more expensive, less cooperative, and ... useless!

The box, by the way, DOES have the species and common name written on it.

The tracking number, which the guy wrote down by hand so it might be zeros or the letter "o" for several of these...

1Z00X W6301 1002 0544

It is supposed to arrive by 10:30 am. I'll be home since this is my vacation week, so I am hopeful that it will arrive without incident. I'll be anxious until I learn that she's arrived without incident.

Of course 10:30 in Kentucky (is that Eastern time?) is 7:30 or 8:30 my time... hopefully that means she'll be there by the time I wake up. 17 hours in the box for the poor girl.

Anyway, here's the picture of her in the package, me getting ready to seal it so she can make her cross-country travel!

Urgh! I have tried to track the package, but alas, I can't seem to figure out the handwritten tracking number. I took a photo of the paper where the guy wrote the tracking number. Perhaps someone else can successfully track the package?

Thanks DAn... I went to track her this morning only to find that the page hadn't changed and was just starting to panic when I got an email from Chris saying she arrived. So UPS, at this moment, has her still in Arizona, whilst Chris says she arrived. But hey, it's better for the snake to arrive and the info to be wrong, then the info to be right and the snake in limbo!

He says he'll post tonight. I'm so GLAD she arrived! I HATE shipping snakes!

She got here safe and sound first thing Tuesday mornin!

Sorry it took so long to get in here and wrap up my end...had my work schedule changed with NO notice..LOL....so thus my tardiness responding

Well i have to say this transaction was pretty flawless...the snake arrived VERY well packaged and very alert and active (no she didnt try to take my nose off)
perfectly represented and properly sexed..AND she ate for me last night...Took 2 FT med rats with no hesitation!

only worry I have now is that I got an email saying the shipping costs has yet to be claimed...and I'm hoping i didn't send to the wrong email

Congratulations to both of you. My only hope is that in the future we have more transactions like this!

Regards.
