In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Off Topic, but Man does this SUCK!!!

Went out side a few minutes ago to check on my bearded dragon group. I found a small hole about the size of a quarter off to the side of hole thats been dug by my females. I thought to myself, " man this is weird nothing that small could have survived long enough to make a hole like that in here with all these beardies!" I was right! After some digging I found 14 perfectly slit opened eggs! The poor little guys had hatched on their own and dug out and were immediately eaten! Man does this suck!:( :(

that does suck! :(

Well that sucks maybe next time Sorry for your loss(es)

Ah dang man!

That sucks big time Chad... :( - Hey, we're not fortune tellers, so there was no way of knowing that was going to happen.

Next time will end much better!

Ive had redfoots lay eggs outside and ended up loseing hatchlings to escapes and birds. now i weigh my torts on a weekly basis to see if they are gravid and when they deposit eggs, then I go egg hunting. sorry for your loss, is it common for bearded dragons to be cannibalistic? even in the wild?

Thanks Vince.

Thats a very good idea. Not sure about in the wild but I now know for sure they are cannabilistic in captivity.

You know what REALLY sucks?

All these people in the leopard gecko forum who have something they want to post which would be appropriate and ON TOPIC in another forum, but instead decide to shove it in a forum it doesn't belong in where people who might have been more interested in it may not find it.

I'm not a mod or a site owner or anything else... just been posting here a good while and it annoys the hell out of me every time this happens. Rich bent over backwards and devoted a great deal of time and mental effort to creating a set of forums that were as his users wanted. He ASKED what kind of forums we desired and how specific they should be and he was told to break it down to the species level for popular animals... And then a few months later, people who may deal primarily with leopard geckos can't seem to find all the other forums he set up for posts about their F!#@$#@&%ING bearded dragons or snakes or what movies they saw last weekend. Seriously making me start to wonder if leopard gecko breeders could find their own ass with both hands and a map. They sure as hell can't figure out where to post messages about herps other than leopard geckos despite the bold print forum names and drop down menus and site map telling them where to go.

Even if you don't give a damn about the other users who may end up either not finding a topic that may have been of interest... Like the bearded dragon breeders and owners who probably would have loved to have the conversation in the appropriate forum... At least have the basic decency and respect to use the forums Rich went out of his way to set up for individual topics. With the effort he put into it, it's like spitting in his face everytime it's ignored, although he's probably way too nice to mention it as I have. Eventually though it will become a problem that the moderators will be forced to deal with- if only two thirds of the posts in a specific forum are on topic then there's no point in having multiple forums. Just one big fat confusing message board with a list of whatever people felt like writing.

What the hell is wrong with you?....there are maybe 3 off-topic posts on this forum a month...your post is ENTIRELY uncalled for! Chad was just venting about something that made him upset (I'm very sorry for your loss by the way Chad). There is NO need WHATSOEVER for you to swear and insult everyone on the forum! If there were a lot of off-topic posts occuring I could understand some anger...but a few every month is nothing to freak out about...and CERTAINLY nothing to start you swearing and insulting everyone! especially in a thread someone started about a loss! I think you may need a map and 2 hands to pull your head of your ass.

there are maybe 3 off-topic posts on this forum a month..

I went back and looked at posts from July first to August first and there are eighteen BLATANTLY off topic threads (Started off topic and stayed that way) and a load of them which are questionabally placed... meaning that there is a more appropriate forum, but the leopard gecko forum wasn't entirely and obviously the wrong place for them... This is posts which are still there and doesn't count those which may have been deleted or moved as this one was, or those which may contain all of three paragraphs about leopard geckos and then a ten page discussion about Major League baseball.

There is a bearded dragon forum, there is a BS forum, there are shipping and incubation and prey forums. Any given forum will attract the oddball off topic post, but the leopard gecko discussion forum (where this thread was originally) seems to be a hotbed for it. It's nifty to see people becoming communally involved and wanting to share things with specific others who they have had discussions with in the past but it's not an excuse for making a beardie post in a gecko forum. Isolationism like that will only lead to eventual stagnation of the other forums which are losing out on posts which would be an appropriate topic and within the gecko forum where possible topics are beaten to death by a small handful of people who don't extend their interests, which are obviously diverse, to the appropriate audiences.

Seamus . . .

. . . don't you think you over-reacted a tad? Maybe this person has a relationship with some of the posters on this forum and wants to share it with them.

Holy cow.

Come over to my house, have a beer and let's make fun of the politicians. Life's way to short to get whipped up over something like this.

Chad did demonstrate knowledge of this forum, because he posted the same topic here.

Something you need to understand and respect, Seamus, is that regardless of how many species an individual keeps s/he usually becomes much more involved in the community dedicated to one specific species. As a community, we welcome off topic posts. As far as many people are concerned the different forums might as well be entirely different websites.

i dont get it? was this thread moved by a mod? becuse it looks like this is exactly where this thread belongs.

Actually I posted it here first.

I first posted it as Tragedy Strikes. Then I posted it in the Leopard forum just because I know alot of people over there. Whats funny is the person that "threw a Cow" over the whole thing. His reply to my post is actually OFF TOPIC! ;)

Chad,
I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I am also sorry to see you being slammed for posting this in two diffrent places because you have friends in that forum.

As for you Seamus. I respect you and love to read what you post. But this was a little over board. You put them all in one group and bashed them as a whole. Isn't that what most people do to reptile owners? See my point?

Again Chad sorry to hear of your loss.

Sorry for going off topic :)

Man, thats weak!!!

I think some people need to grow up!!! Chad, I don't think you were out of line in anyway, shape or form! You posted that OFF TOPIC thread in a place where you know 95% of the other posters!!! Hell, you even made note that it was off topic.

I mean damn, if it bugs someone(s) so much to read "off topic" threads then feel free to skip it! There's plenty of other threads to look at, so what the hells the problem? In all honesty, it looks like some individuals just look for things to gripe about! Life's too short to cry about everything under the sun, time to lighten up and enjoy these things for what they are FORUMS!! Not the end of the world to have an off topic post, so maybe its time to act a bit differently!

Again, Chad, sorry for your losses man, and I'm glad that you posted it where we all could read it.

Oh wow. Total weakness.

Very sorry about your loss Chad. I would probably cry. /-.-\

I was very confused about the arguing and had to read on...I came across this aparently after it was moved.

Seamus - I respect your opinion, very much actually. I get tired of posts in the wrong place. It DOES cause people to neglect the other forums. I have had many questions that I posted in the correct discussion forums that were never seen because no one who can answer the questions goes there. Either that or I have terrible timing.

You did go a little overboard on this poor guy. He posted it there so his friends would see and labled it "off topic." It'd be different if he just did it, and proceeded to talk about what happened yesterday with his dragons, then his snakes...so on so on.

Maybe next time you can ask him why he did, then go blow up in the General BS Forum, or under General Herp Talk....Or HELL!! the **HELL** forum would be a GREAT place for your comment. And I bet people would back you up there. I know I would proceed to add my two cents. (again)

I don't know. Put your massive yellng complaint in the place where it belongs, directed towards all the stupid people that post in the wrong places, not the person informing his friends of his horrible loss.

I went overboard deliberately. A few people have posted politely in a number of forums about the situation on the leopard gecko forum where some of the regular posters there are isolating themselves to a good degree and the potential negative impacts it can have... Nobody seemed to pay much attention. They'll remember this one way or the other and might pause in the future.

Off topic posts which are labeled as off topic are possibly even worse than those which are not. It meant the poster KNEW it was inappropriate material for the forum in question (instead of innocent naivity) and decided to post it anyway. Fauna has a lot of great features with friends lists, private messages and versatile search features- if he wanted his friends who regularly read the gecko forums to see his bearded dragon post, there were many other ways to go about it.

Look...if you don't want to read off topic posts...than don't. You were the only one in the forum who seemed to mind. I don't think it hurts the website as a whole for it to happen. The things posted as off-topic probably wouldn't be posted at all otherwise. What's wrong with sharing something with the people you talk to all the time...and isn't it off-topic to post in other forums about the leopard gecko forum anyway? Who cares if we have some off-topic posts...it just means it's a closer community. I personally don't keep any reptilian species other than leopard geckos, and so I don't frequent the other forums...but many people who visit the leo forum do keep other species (such as Chad who posted in BOTH forums) and like to share what is happening with thier animals (and or families...), with those of us who don't visit the other forums...I dont' see why that is such a big deal...because it's not...at least not to those who are regulars on the forum.

It may have been off topic but I believe most of the herp community keep more then just Leos. I did not know that could happen with Beardies. I don't read the Beardie forum even though I have one. Since he posted here, it has simply added to my knowledge of herps which I am always trying to expand.

The posts that annoy me are, even sometime on topic, by people who are ignorant regarding reptiles and there well-being. Those people I'd like to see flamed.

This could apply to keeping of Leos because what if one did not find some eggs buried in the box and they hatched? Would the parents eat them? I found it relative to the herp world in general. Since he posted it with the topic line of OFF TOPIC, I could choose to read or not.

Just my two cents.
