In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

ok I really think I got it this time

Are you sure it's a black and white and not a gold? Not to whiz in your wheaties and he's a good looking lizard, but he sure looks golden in the picture. Where did he come from?

I've had a few golds that were just plain mean and a couple of black and whites that were really cool.

I often see golds sold as black and whites out here in the Republic of Ca.

They really are neat little lizards though. Does he like feeder fish or pinkies better?

well I got him from this reptile wholesale place in Tampa called southeast reptile exchange. They told me they were black and whites so Im pretty sure that he is but I could be mistaken. If it is a gold how will i know? and I've only tried feeding him pinkies so far and he seems to like them.

He looks kinda gold on the top but mostly white from the sides and underneath him. What do the golds look like?

don't the black&whites have that coloring as babies?? again, its been awhile since i was dealing with those guys, but I think I remember that being the case...either that or the dealers at the various shows were all passing off golds as B&Ws and we got ripped off when ordering them for the shop - but that is possible, too. I agree that the golds tend to be on the nasty side...my experience has the females worse than the males on that scale.

On a side note, my male (gold) "Nitro" used to like it warm. He kept turning up the thermostat on the electric radiator I heated the room with. (yeah, I was young and stupid and let him have free roam) I couldn't figure out how it kept happening until I walked in one day and saw him standing on his hind legs with his (hands? paws? hmmm) on the controller. I know that there are many that will doubt this, but I saw it; and once I caged him it never happened again. I also know that it could have a repeated accident vs planned action, but it is still a fun story so :raspberry

what do you want to know about them? if you have specific questions, toss them out. if you just want basic info, there is plenty of that online - you'll get a more complete answer by doing the search. (not trying to be short or rude, but your search will net results alot faster than me typing 2-3 pages worth of stuff for you...besides, you bought it you should already have investigated the basics)

lol yea that would be a better idea thanks for all the help and I still am looking for a argentine tegu so if any 1 wants to sell or trade me a baby that'd be awesome

Unless there has been a new discovery, there are no black and whites native to Col. They only come from Argentina. I think you got took. It still looks like a gold to me and it is OFTEN the case that they are sold as black and whites as juveniles.

Actually, I believe they are very different lizards. Much like our whiptails up here have similarities but are unique to each unto themselves dependant on the location they come from.

The gold from colombia are smaller and way meaner and I have never seen one that was actually black and white.

The black and whites from Argentina get huge, I've seen males pushing six feet pretty hard and are way more mellow as a rule.

I still think that one in the pic is a gold, most likely from colombia. It's still a cool lizard but sort of like getting a pug when you wanted a doberman.

oops - Tupinambis teguixin. The b&ws are also called black tegus, the golds are aka common tegus. I believe that more recently, they are getting lumped together. I have seen both adult golds, and adult columbian b&w's...physically the same, but they're different colors. Attitudes tend to be much the same. My understanding is that they while they were once considered separate species, they are now officially considered to be the same animal. If I am not mistaken, there is a geographical variant that is still considered a Black & Gold - again, so named for the obvious color difference. I'll look around for verification of this.

but you are right, Wes, the columbian B&W is a very different animal than the Argentine B&W. size, scalation, temperament, and (I believe) diet. (Argentines eat more plant matter/fruit as adults than other Teiids)

for anyone interested: "Another variant of T. nigropunctatus (or T. teguixin, if you prefer--still confused?), is the Gold Tegu, once considered to be a separate species but now classified as a geographical race of the common Black Tegu. It has a black and yellow pattern, with the most sought-after individuals being almost pure yellow or tan."

A little dated, perhaps, but it reflects what I had understood to be the case.
