• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

OK, What's the Consensus?

Hey everyone,

There seems to be quite a few people browsing this forum... but when I poke my nose in, most of you are usually coming up on the bottom as unregistered, visitor or not logged in. In addition, the number of 'lurkers' vs. the number of 'posters' seems to be off balance.

Now, I know this subject has been touched on in another area of Fauna - but I'm wondering why it's occurring in this forum in particular.

If you are not a registered member, what reservations do you have in joining Fauna or the forum? (afterall it is free and we are friendly!)
If you are a registered member, why do you not stay logged in? Why do you not participate more?

I realise that if you're not currently a member, you have read only rights and cannot respond here - but I do welcome your responses at dragons @ dachiu.com
For those of you able to respond here, please do so. The only way we can make this a place you would like to spend your time is if we know what would make you comfortable and possibly a more active participant.

For me, I own two dragons and they are awesome pets, but if someone beats me to the punch on answering a question I know I usually bow out then. That mainly happens as I really have no further imput to add. I am new to the world of dragons, so my knowledge does not expand very far. Though if I can, I will be here to help.

Hmm - can't really leave here without posting now can I?!

I suppose as a 'newbie' I am visiting the site often and have been surprised at the lack of posts, but then there hasn't been a lot of things that I can respond to myself either.

We run our own 'community' website (uk only though, sorry!) and have hundreds of different boards for various topics. There are a handful of more 'general' boards which are really very busy and can get in excess of 30 posts a day whereas there are other more specialised boards that are lucky if they get one post a week!

As this is quite a specialised subject, there are only so many times that a question will get asked before people stop responding to it... newbies tend not to go back through all the previous threads to find an answer they are looking for, post the question (again!) and then get disheartened that they appear to be being ignored.

There is also the fact that people have probably found the site by accident whilst googling for a specific topic on BDs (just like I did) and have perhaps found the answer they're looking for and are not bothered about registering and getting involved.

It's not an easy one to answer as to 'why' and also not an easy thing to change - people will use a site once and never look at it again, or if they are the gregarious type then they will join.

Lol, I've been spelling your name wrong all these years and just noticed, Vicki missed the e, why didn't you ever say anything. Oh well at least the Dachiu part was right.

As far as not being real active over here I guess there are probably a number of reasons. The biggest one being that after the KS split I landed over on another forum that was about as popular as this one at the time but is now very busy (about like old ks where we'd fill a page or 2 of posts daily) so I've been busy over there. Even though I occasionally see a lot of names I recognize over here there doesn't seem to be any unity or sense of family going on, maybe most of them are just burnt out on forums???? Senior/advanced members usually mold/form a general consensus of opinion on any forum based on their beliefs. This particular forum either has had very little or no guidance in a while IMO. The general consensus from what I've seen seems to be "if it seems to work for you then it must be ok", you know me better than to think I could swallow that, so in an effort not to piss in anyones cherios I really haven't said much. I've been carefully tiptoeing around for the last couple of weeks answering a question here and there and I'll probably continue to check in when I come over to check my forum on here but at least for now it just doesn't have that gut "feeling" and since I'm not breeding beardies anymore I'm not necessarilly looking for a new place. Hopefully some of that made sense. Look at it on the bright side, at least you don't have flame wars to deal with lol.....

i am always logged on most of the time i never log off but i see what you are saying it is very easy to be a member it just take maby two minutes

Junkyard & Dand,
I understand what you mean. I usually sit on a post for a bit to see what answers will come up from members and then add my penny. But, the more people that add their thoughts to a post, the better. :>poke2<:

Mandi,
I know... its a never-ending story - They come and they go. But I'm hoping to entice a handful to stay for a while. I'm not just looking for questions that people would like to ask and answer, but also some ideas that would have people wanting to pop in and see what's going on here.

Sean, you can spell my name however you'd like... just please don't refer to me as "the bearded lady", OK??? I'd really, truly appreciate it. heheh...
oh, I watched the ks fiasco happen and counted my blessings I wasn't active on that board. That type of meltdown has happened plenty of times and the absolute last thing we need is that stuff to start here... ahhhh!
I typically keep on the quieter end of things myself and do more msg'ing than publicly responding to posts - Kinda similar to your tip-toeing - but some of the floor boards creak in here!!

Lately though, Rich has really brought Fauna back into check and that's raised the comfort level a lot in my opinion. Since then Ive found myself more apt to post, rather than msg/email.
This particular board can be fairly slow at times but I feel a sense of 'calm' here that I don't see elsewhere. Id really appreciate some ideas on how to expand on that.
**Now, I certainly don't mind the enthusiastic discussions, disagreements and facts on a board - but the nastiness and derogatory crap that seems to be typical just urges me to hit the little X in the top-right of the screen!
