In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well i have had my beardies for two years. and so i decided to breed them. and i did research breeding and i can got everything ready .. but i never did hear of adenovirus and what it affected until after i bred them. :(

so i can get the eggs at the earliest of next week. and so im going to call a vet tommorow.. and see if i can get them tested for it. and i feel so stupid!!!!
but i wanted to know what i will have to do to get them tested like.. do they test it from a fecal sample or do i have to bring them into the vet? and how much does it cost per beardie?
other than not tested for that... they are healthy. They eat their greens, crickets.. i dust all their food w/ calcium powder. They are alert, proper age. and they are good sized.

help would be great!!

k thanks!
i read some of those and people were talking about samples so i think that it is a fecal sample that they were talking about. so im going to read more of those articles.
but i was kinda wandering.. like do i have to bring them to the vet. or just the samples.and how much is it per beardie? and does the sample have to be like " new " .. sry for asking so many questions.
i dont want to be on the phone and asking them like 100's of questions.. lol. so if someone could clear that up that would be good. but im going to try to get them to the vet asap.

Hello

Hello,

When you send off for the testing kit from Lou Ann from the address provided, you send her the fecal which will be put into the fixative by you at home, then sent off to her.
Then, she will contact you with the results. The vet has nothing to do with the fecal exam through the Electron Microscopy testing, that is all done at the University of Illinois. If I am right, the test is still under $40 dollars. I do now know if there is a charge for the testing kits yet or not. Lou Ann is very helpful so she can answer any questions for you better than your vet can, honestly.
There is another type of testing the PCR which is done through your vet, since it is a cloacal swab & DNA test, then, it is sent to the University of Florida.
I am very pleased to hear though, that you are doing the testing now. You are doing the right thing, & I am happy to hear it! Good luck. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Tracie

Also, you have to do blood testing as well, because... from what i understand the fecal is not always Guaranteed to be accurate. The tests are expensive, BUT if you get them done, i think it would be a great thing to see them posted here on fauna ( if you are comfortable with it)

If they are negative, it would really stand up for you and your dragons in the future ^_- But being positive does not mean you should hide them either, and it could be a start to help EVERYONE start producing healthy beardies free of Adeno in the future.

Its great to see people researching and willing to keep learning, and truly you are doing the very best for your dragons. I just hope your tests come up negative! Good luck, let us know how it turns out for you!

so you contact her and she will send you something to put the sample in? and then you send it back to her. im confused on that.? and these test are 40$, right?

someone told me that the blood tests are like 175$ or so.. i dont have that and i dont think my dad would want to pay that much for both.

well if you could really explain on how to get them tested that would help b/c im really confused right now, and have no clue on how this works... and i talked to my mom and she said she didnt want to do all this stuff.. and i know my dad wouldnt either.. so i dont know what to do right now.

Very easy

Hello,

Oh don't worry, it is very easy!! :) Just contact Lou Ann Miller via email or by phone. Request 2 test kits, one for each dragon. Collect a fecal sample from each one of them, & properly label which is which, of course, & follow the directions on how to put the fecal sample into the fixative. Then, just mail the samples to Lou Ann. That is all it takes, then, you are finished.
Lou Ann will contact you with the results within 1-3 days depending on her caseloads & samples she has for the week.

Forgot

Hello,

I forgot to add that the fecal tests are cheap, probably less than $40 per test or per sample that is. The fecal test is fine, so there is no need for you to do the other test, the PCR or DNA test at this time.
Just ask if you have anymore questions.

Tracie

Thanks that helps a lot.. but just one more question.. lol. to send back the test kit, what do you send it in? and does it cost to have her send it.. ?

This really helps. its more simple than i thought... so ill talk to my mom tommorow and have her look into it.

Hello

Hello,

I am fortunate as I have yet to do this test!!
I believe that you pack it in dry ice & overnight it to her, & that is it. UPS or FEDEX either one will do it for a decent price, no problem. I am pretty sure that the test kits are still free, from what I understand.
Yes, it is very easy. Lou Ann is a great person to deal with as well. :)

Tracie

yeah i looked on that site and i remeber it saying to put an ice pack in it..
so i will talk to my mom and ask her to email her... and so she'll send us the kits.. we follow the directions.. we send it back to her in, i guess in a box? with ice packs in it.. i think that sounds right.

Hello

Hello,

Yes, just a regular box, & then just go through UPS or FEDEX & they can wrap it up for you. Regular ice packs or dry ice, either one. I don't think it matters, but Lou Ann can tell you which may work better.
Yes, Lou Ann will send you the test kits, & you can just mail it in. It is very easy & really not very expensive. Though it is worth it since you are breeding & it is the most responsible thing to do as well with how things are these days in the breeding industry. Potential buys will appreciate your efforts for them as well.

Tracie

K, i think i got it.. lol :D
i just really want to make sure i know what to do and so i can explain everything to my mom...
thanks a lot!!!

Hello

Hello,

No problem!! :D Lou Ann will send instructions with the test kit, so you will understand what to do with the sample. Great your mom is helping you out with this, too.
Happy to have helped out. Let me know how things go.

Tracie

well i talked to my mom and well she doesnt really want to do anything with the breeding...but i explained it to her but she doesnt really want to get involved with this whole thing. it was my dad who said we can breed them.... and so i asked him and he said no..... so idk what to do... i dont know why he wont let me test them... i would pay for it.
and i told him it could hurt the babies... and he was still like "no.. everthing you read you dont have to do" .. which this is very important!!!
which he hasnt read anything, im the one who has been doing the research. but i dont think he will change his mind..unless my mom lets me, but he probably wont change his mind...

:(
i dont know what to do.

Personally, since you have already bred them, and, not sure if you have eggs yet here, but. if you dont, and when they do come, i say just freeze the eggs and dont bother until you are 100% sure. This way, you arent possibly Adding to the problem of adeno in more dragons, and you can get your animals tested the right way, when you are able.

If you have the eggs already, and they are not far along, i would suggest the same method. I definitely would not hatch them out, one way or another.

Hello

Hello,

Geez, sorry to hear that. If you are going to pay for the tests, then can't you still get them tested if they aren't paying for it?
I am sorry your parents don't understand the importance of not spreading a potential virus as you do. However, I do have to say, since they were there when you bred them, they are already involved. She wont be anymore involved than she already is at the moment.
I agree though if there are eggs, I think you should freeze them just in case. That way, if they are positive they wont hatch out. It really is the right thing to do & I know you know that. I am sorry things are not working out, but your parents apparently do not realize the importance of doing this.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Tracie

i reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeely dont want to do that...ill try talking to them again... and my dad wouldnt want to freeze the eggs either b/c he spent some money already on this.. so im going to talk to them again..
