In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Perhaps time for a change here?

Perhaps I need to make a change with this particular forum to make it more useful to people.  There are a number of possibilities, so let me state them off the top of my head:

(1)  Limit this General Discussion board to ONLY matters pertaining to commercial transactions of reptiles, trades, shipping concerns, or general questions about ethics.  There are plenty enough forums on KINGSNAKE.COM alone to fullfill the need for such threads beginning with "How do I take care of a ball python?" or "Please! My Iguana won't eat!"

I really have no desire for this site to become a duplicate of KINGSNAKE.COM so perhaps it is time to try to keep this forum in focus on specific matters that would be relevant to a site called FaunaClassifieds.com.

(2)  Become a mini KINGSNAKE.COM by breaking this section up into a couple of dozen specifically targeted forums. Kind of like I did for the FOR SALE and WANTEDS categories.  Not sure what that would gain for anyone, since likely they would just duplicate most of the messages here on KINGSNAKE.COM as well.  But I'm willing to listen if that's what you all want.

(3) Leave it as it is.

Should I put another one of those gosh awful polls here?

Not saying I would have time right away to implement any changes, but some input might be helpful to look down the road for the future.

Thanks.

HI RICH,
PERSONALLY I WOULD LEAVE IT AS IT IS. I THINK WE HAVE
ALL GOTTON USED TO THE FORMAT AND CAN NAVIGATE AROUND QUICKLY AND WITH EASE. THERE ARENT VERY MANY
"HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF A BALL PYTHON" THREADS AND THOSE THAT THERE ARE USUALLY GET ANSWERED AND THEY GO ON DOWN THE PAGE. ONE THING I WOULD SUGGEST IS TO
BE A LITTLE MORE LIBERAL WITH YOUR RIGHT TO DELETE AND
MOVE ITEMS. ON THE BOI THERE ARE SEVERAL THREADS THAT
CAST A "SHADOW" OVER IT. THE SNAKE-PIT THREAD FOR ONE
SHOULD NOT EVEN BE ON THERE. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH A GOOD GUY/BAD GUY POST TO BEGIN WITH AND I THINK WE ALL WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT MOVED OFF THE BOI AND ONTO THE DISCUSSION BOARD WHERE IT BELONGS. THERE ARE SEVERAL POST ON THE BOI THAT FALL UNDER THAT CATAGORY INCLUDING MY "SHIPPING" POST, THEY SHOULD ALL BE MOVED TO THE DISCUSSION BOARD AND THAT WOULD CLEAN UP THE BOI ALOT AND MAYBE REMOVE
SOME OF THOSE "WHATS BECOMING OF THE BOI" QUESTIONS.
OTHER THAN THAT I THINK ITS WORKING GREAT.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

GOD BLESS!!!

Maybe breaking this board up into general topics (like only 3 or 4, for example - Shipping Help, Business Ethics, Husbandry)<note: I am sure you can come up with better names <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> >. I agree there are a number of posts on the BOI that are not good guy/bad guy posts (for example the dreaded Neil thread) which although definitely a statement on behavior started out more as a "I've lost my snakes" post. While I visit the kingsnake forums I do not think you have the same demographic here. Most of the people are a little more "serious" about their hobby/business.

"Most of the people are a little more "serious" about their hobby/business."

sorry should have been

"Most of the people here are a little more "serious" about their hobby/business."

I've always thought of this as a place to ask about anything that is appropiate for the BOI.  Honestly, I really don't see any problem with leaving this as a fairly open, ask whatever board.  It's not like it gets a ton of questions so stuff doesn't get covered up within a couple days or anything.  I've always just thought of this as a place to discuss anything, and I think that if you broke it up, stuff would be more likely to get overlooked, thus making it more likely not not have questions answered.  The way it is now, everyone that looks in the "General Discussions" area sees every post.  And, I know that a good number of ppl visit every day.  Just my opinion.  I say leave this one fairly open.
Webslave?  Are you bored?  Do you have too much time on your hands?
J/K of course, I know that it's quite the opposite.

Actually this is kind of the eye of the hurricane.  All of the eggs have been laid (except those few dummies that insist on double clutching), and none are due to hatch until the second week of July.  I actually did feel bored today.  First time in longer than I can remember.  Not that I don't have anything should be doing, but nothing I did seemed like it was what I should be doing or wanted to be doing.  Know what I mean?

I suppose tomorrow I'll have a half dozen people threaten to sue me or else a lynch mob show up at my door for not posting the Crowley report in the 'thread from hell'.

But I do like to here what people have in mind for this site to offer.  I don't want it to be just another 'me too' site, however.

Thanks.

Rich,

If you do decide to break up the discussion area, I would suggest that you do it into very broad categories (i.e. snakes, lizards, turtles, other). That would keep the traffic level up and also offer something for the discerning herper.

Sincerely,

Gino (Beniquez) From Da Bronx

ps-also, please do not close the Snake Pit thread. Remember, it is always the bad guys that try to shut you up. The overwhelming majority of what is going on in there is between the two antagonists.

I like the idea of having this forum be more about ethics, selling/buying, boi related stuff that isnt suitable for the boi.  But, I think that it pretty much functions that way as is.  There are a bunch of forum sites that mimic kingsnake, and I certainly dont think this needs to be one of them.

The only thing I can suggest is maybe to post on the boi something about moving more "discussion" type topics to this forum and suggesting using this area as a way to discuss ethics/issues in buying and selling that are more generalized.  I dont know, that Snake Pit thread is almost more suitable to over here at this point.  But I think a lot of people that use the boi dont even check over here (I didnt until about a month or two ago), thinking it was another "my snake is sick" sort of places.

I'm sure whatever you do would be fine.  But how about taking a break!

Dana

I think this board is fine the way it is.  It allows a quick glance at all of the threads at once and the opportunity to choose that that intrest me directly.  If you wanted to increase the traffic here, you could post the Crowley report here first!  LOL

Just my $.02 worth --

I personally like the board the way it is currently set up.  I come here to read over the different posts that aren't good guy/bad guy related and like the variety and go to BOI to see who I will and won't do business with there.  I see ethics type posts in both places and don't really have a problem with either area being the location for those posts.  I don't consider it to be like KS at all (thank you) because, as someone else mentioned, it seems the people coming here are generally more serious.  There are threads (like the Neil thread) that I would like to see locked if not completely moved from the BOI to here because it is more bickering and less about what the BOI was intended for, but that's just my .03 cents.

Whatever you decide, I'm glad you provide this place for us.

Thanks.

I'm 50/50 on this one. I like it the way it is. However, breaking it into relative type forums sounds like it might work (snakes, lizards, arachnids, etc...). If you have someone who is only into snakes like me, then they are not going to be a regular poster regarding a lizard based topic. Plain and simple. Also, for the most part the discussion forum's topic headers are basically nondescript. The same rules apply here as in the BOI. People only respond to a topic they see that interests them. Myself included. Or a topic they have a vested interest or knowledge in. Myself included to a point. Although what it truly boils down to is do you (Webslave) want more work to do?

Just a brief comment about the Neil Gubitz/Dave Lawson thread:

That did start out as being an inappropriate posting in the BOI, as anything related to a burglary or break in should be considered.  But it eventually evolved (some might say devolved) into a situation where one or more participants could potentially be determined to be a 'bad guy', based on statements made about and by them.  I believe that quite a few people have shot themselves in the foot within that thread.

Since the jury is still out on this one, I do believe that it is appropriate being in the BOI.  However, I also believe that many of the messages posted in that thread by third parties are NOT appropriate, but not so much that they should be outright deleted (as some most certainly have been).  If it had been handled perfectly, the 'facts' and opinions stated by the participants would have been in that thread, and a companion thread would have been started here discussing the merits and ethics presented in that thread.  I guess it would be an interesting task to write a message board system that would operate that way.  Maybe in my next life I'll have time to do that......

So that's my opinion on that matter.

Well, I guess I've decided to leave this forum like it is.  But I have added some text to the forum description to help guide it along in the direction I think it should go along.  Of course, I don't expect I'll have much luck having everyone read it and go along with the program.

Anyone have any suggestions for something I can rename this forum to in order to send the signal about how I would like this structured?  "General Discussions" sounds way to broad in scope.  Next thing you know we'll have someone posting in here asking for help to identify a snake or something.   <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Thanks.

I would like to see the board stay the way it is. I really enjoy this section as we do discuss such a broad range of topics and there is always the possibility of learning something new. If there is a topic you are not interested in just skip it. Then it gets shuffled to the bottom. I guess you could break it up a little and see what sections get used the most. Ones that do not get used drop and then the board would be more focused.

Webslave(like that name!&#33<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>,,i like it the way it is,,although some of the posts on the BOI are seriously redundant!!! just a suggestion,,,when you see a post start turning into a mudslinging match,,,take it off and put it somewhere else.. the board is awesome...i like that i can inquire about a seller,,and within a day or two,,i have some knowledge about their ethics!!! but in my opinion,,thats what it needs to stay about;;; ethics!!! good deals;;bad deals,,not,,i THINK he did this, and i THINK she did that,,,but what people KNOW that they did,,and if their transaction went well,,orif it went bad,,or if it was just okay!!!  like i said,,i love the BOI for what it is;;;a board of INQUIRY,,, not mudslinging!!!  thanx webslave,,,for a great asset to the internet reptile business!!!!

I vote to leave the general discussion board the way it is. However, perhaps you should divide the BOI up a bit more. How about adding a category for "mud-slinging" posts and then putting those that degenerate into mud-slinging in there?

If it ain't broke don't fix it
This forum is just great the way it is , I think seperating catagories will be too much work for you especially with the upcomming season that is just about to hatch.
I also agree that a lot of people got a little too passionate on the Neil , Dave thread...myself included.
when it gets down to it we are all your guests and should be
grateful for the BOI as it is or it shall be , so any decisions made we will all eventually live with
what more can we ask for free???
Thanx for a great site <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

If you decide later on to change the forum I think It would be a good idea to have some categories like  Python discussion or Boa discussion and then have a section dedicated to Care for reptiles.  I dont know, I just thought I'd add something to this.
