In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Here are some pics of my Pewter Boa born in the same litter as my Bloody Salmon. I had never heard of a Pewter Boa but from the first time I laid eyes on this baby in the birthing goo I knew there was something different about it. It had the dark eyes that are characteristic of a Blood Boa, but it did not look like any Blood Boa or Bloody Salmon Boa that I had ever seen. So after making some calls and doing some googling I come to find out that what I had was a Pewter Boa, which is both a Blood Boa and a Type II Anery. So for example, when crossed with any normal boa, the babies produced will all be het Blood and het Type II Anery. Here is where the type II comes in.

At some point in the early history of Ron St. Pierre's El Salvador Blood Boa , a blood boa was crossed with a Type II Anery and some of the babies came out anery. This proved that the type II anerythristic gene was present in that Blood Boa, and therefore can be present in Blood Boas. My hets were acquired from Rich Ihle, who used original Blood Boa stock to breed into his Salmon line to make the Bloody Salmons and ultimately the Bloody Sharp Albino. The Bloody Sunglows are right around the corner!!

So here it is, my first double recessive trait snake.

In these next two pics, you can better see the purpleish hue that this snake has.

Some neat stuff right there. Them Blood Boa eyes have always made me drool.

Imagine having something like that popping up unexpectedly. So, how lucky can a guy get, anyway?

Nice stuff, thanks for sharing!
Rick

Thanks Rick. Lucky is truely the word. I just about fell over when I first lifted back the newspaper and saw 13 perfect babies all in the goo. The parents were sold to me as 66% het blood so just proving out to be bloods was an incredible thrill. But then to find the hidden anery gene in there as well was icing on the cake. I say hidden because aside from the parents being sold to me only as pos het bloods, in all the breedings that Rich Ihle had done with his Blood Boas over the years, he never had the anery gene reveal itself. This info I got directly from John at Salmonboa.com. So I was the first one to find it in Rich's line of Blood Boas.

So besides the Bloody Salmon and the Blood Boa, the litter also consisted of this Pewter Boa, a Type II Ghost, and a Type II Anery.

This is what I saw when...

I lifted up the newspaper.

And here they are, just slightly more cleaned up.

I addition to the five aforementioned, there were also 3 Salmons 66% pos double het blood/type II anery and 5 normals 66% pos het blood/type II anery. The Salmons were pretty amazing, I am kind of sorry that I sold them, but you can't keep em all right??

Good lord and I thought we were lucking getting 1 visual out of 4 from a 66% pos het X 66% pos het! Awesome Alex and I agree Rick....I could keep them all

Thanks Laura. But if you break it down this way, we both hit similar odds:

Your 1 out of 4 = 25%

My 3 Blood Boas(Pewter, Bloody Salmon, & Blood) out of 13 babies = 23%

My 3 Anerys(Pewter, Ghost, & Anery) out of 13 babies = 23%

I was just lucky to have an extra recessive gene and greater numbers than you did.

I like how the Pewter has the washed out look of a ghost without the hypo influence.

You numbers were definitely better than ours. I can't help but to wonder what the 13 slugs our girl dropped her first season would've been if she took.

Are you sure that is not a hypo pewter? I think the regular pewters tend to be darker than that.

I guess that would be....

even better, a triple het!! That is a possibility, it might be a Hypo Pewter since one of the parents was a Salmon. The difficulty has been trying to find other pictures to compare mine to. If you look at Jeremy Stone's website, in the collection section, there are a couple pics of a Pewter. I don't know if those pics he has are of an adult or of a baby, so it is hard to make a comparison. If his pics are of an adult or a subadult, then would mine grow up to look similar? I don't know. I guess the only way to truely find out is to breed it to a non hypo and see if any hypo babies are produced. Or better yet, breed it to a Blood Boa and if any Bloody Salmons are produced, that would answer the Hypo question and reconfirm the Blood Gene as well.

I had actually sent pics to Jeremy and he confirmed that I did have a Pewter. Now wheather it is a Hypo Pewter or just a Pewter, was not a topic that we corresponded or talked about. Jeff Ronne and Rich Ihle also got pictures. Jeff and I had a few conversations about the litter and we both referred to it as a Pewter when we talked about it.

So the short answer to your question is, I don't know, but it was a great question.

You might want to check with Tracy Barker, www.vpi.com
I believe she has produced many pewters. I think Chris Nicholas also owns one. They may be able to help. First thing I thout was that it was a hypo, but what do I know.

Matt Crabe

I might just do that, thanks for the advice. I had forgotten about that Petwer boa pic on Tracy's website, what a beautiful black tail.
