• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Please consider making the Classifieds require a minimum membership level...

Even if it is the $10 level, I am so sick of these lame scammers with UK addresses posting ads for animals that they don't own, they are no better than the Nigerian scammers and their lame spam templates.

Requiring a minimum membership level will weed these people out as they will not want to pay $10 to register, and for the honest sellers, $10 is still a more than competitive price to place ads.

I don't know....... My butt is still sore from the reaming I got when I instituted the paid membership requirement for posting on the BOI. I'm still not healed from that one yet. :toiletcla

Once healed, try Bitter apple. It works keeping my dog from chewing on things I don't want her to chew on, may just work on you butt. LOL

Though I would have to agree that anything that would make it harder for the scammers to advertise would be beneficial.

Heck, just charge .05 .10 or .25 to register a screen name when they post a classified.
Then they could post for free. I can't see anyone complaining about that.
It would help deter registering from suspended members and the scammers will not want to pony up their real info.

It may accomplish absolutely nothing or it could be just enough to send a scammer to another site instead.

I don't know, Do you think charging someone a quarter or even a penny, would deter a real person from registering?

Just my rambling thoughts.
I already know Rich’s position on charging for the classifieds, as he has stated it many times.

Charging for anything for less then $1 via an automated system using PayPal just doesn't work very well. PayPal charges something like 30 cents plus a percentage for each transaction, so for anything less then a buck, I am basically working mostly for PayPal. Heck, I don't think I could even run a transaction for less then 30 cents.

With the ad enhancements, I think I only get something like 67 cents out of every dollar.

It does seem strange that you don't need to be a paid member to list an ad,but when I buy a nice snake that was listed and want to give the seller good feedback, I need to
have another level (automessage didn't say which one and I don't see that in the level FAQ) to do so.....

Why not just add it as a perk starting at the lowest membership level?

I think it should be viewable by everyone. It's a good idea to have to have a paid membership to be able to post ads.

I thought that there WAS a minimum paid membership to post an ad! Guess that's how alert I am.

...I agree that it only does make sense, in a way. I mean, for ten bucks a year you can post all the ads you want -- that's still better than "that other herp site..." :p
