    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

My leos and fat tails have both taken to crapping in the egg laying box. This is new behaviour. It seems that the girls who have been laying have been doing it, then the ones who AREN'T have followed suit.

Is this a common thing? And if so, is there a remedy? Like changing out the substrate after laying or something like that?

its not that big a deal, just peeves me a little..lol... almost as much as pooping in the mealie, calcium or water dish.... ;)

Thanks!

just curious what you use for lay box medium. i found mine doing it at one time but she was also eating the medium. i switched to coconut fiber and she stopped eating it and (now that i think about it) has not been "pooping" in the lay box.
i dont know though, just making observations off my leos, heck she could just be acting up. or too lazy to get up and use the toilet, jk.

there is vermiculite in the leo boxes, peat moss in the fatties.... both poop in them...lol...

My fatties were eating the vermiculite... golden poops... so I took it out.... was never a problem with the leos...

Cory, try coir (also known as bed a beast and some other names) and see if that stops them. That is a nasty little habit.

Yeah.... I'm kinda hesitant to change thier laying box medium half way through a season though. I don't know if it would confuse them or not, but rather not take the chance.

Though as soon as they are done laying I will for sure switch it out, can't hurt to try. The weird thing is they NEVER did it till they started laying eggs....

I use a coco fiber based product similar to the one Ro said. Out of all my females I have one fat tail that poops inside it. I don’t know why she likes it but I can’t stop her.

Cory, I have a redstripe that does the same thing. I have tried everything. I started by taking the poo out and placing it in the cage where I would like her to go. Didn't work. Changed the laying medium. That didn't work. Changed the laying box. That didn't work. Changed her 12qt out for a new one. That didn't work. Now I change her lay box and medium everyday, She has me well trained. LOL :>poke2<:

LOL..Thats FTure!

I had this problem with one of my Fat Tails, I tried changing the Bed-A-Beast, didn't work, but, when I took out the hide box and replaced it with a new one, she stopped pooping in it, now she poops ON it(The cover of the hide box), I guess you just can't win with them :slamit:

I'm sorry if this is a stupid suggestion, but would changing the location of the laying box in the cage possibly help? I have never bred leos, but I do know that they pick a place to poop in the cage, and do it there almost always...maybe the lay box is in the same location as their old toilet area?...

Sorry again if this is a dumb suggestion, I just didn't read that anybody changed the location of the box, just the substrate in it....
:rolleyes:

Amanda.... they all had a corner picked prior to laying eggs, went there like clockwork UNTIL after eggs were laid, then the weird behaviour started.

I have tried moving the boxes, tried taking the poop out and putting it where they used to crap.... and still no go. Now I'll be honest, not all of them do it, and not all of them that do it do it ALL the time. last couple of days for example, no poop in hides, all in the corners they had picked long ago, but then this morning, BAM, poop in the hide... the freshly changed and washed hide I might add... I said it before, I'll say it again.... BUGGERS!

I'm having the same problem! It is aggravating isn't it? One of our geckos had given up the traditional corner in favor of the upper shelf inside the male's favorite hide. Now both geckos in that cage use the the moist hide / lay box. At least the other hide stays clean now! :rolleyes:

I was just thinking, three of my other geckos, that are housed individually, have chosen bathroom areas under hides as well. These don't have floors, so it isn't hard to clean up. Maybe if we put a covered area over the bathroom corner they'll go back to that corner. Think I'll give that a try!

Good luck! :)
