    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

I have many balls, but have not seen a snake do this before. I will however start from the beginning.

We purchased this baby (seems to be a 2010 normal female) from petco because they were on sale for 20$ (why the hell not get one at that price right?) Usually we dont go to petco but a friend had said they were having a killer rep sale.

Initially when handling her she seemed as healthy as any baby ball, but when we got it home i noticed its nose was a bit irritated (looks like retained shed, but shes shed a few times so idk) so i figured possible RI but i quarantined and brought temps up and she seemed to be doing better so i moved her into a bigger tank with another snake. They seemed fine for a few months but ive noticed she is not gaining any weight (dont have current weights cant be over 100g and i have had her for 2 or 3 months) but i have sence bought more babys and they seem to be growing quicker at this point.

Just a few questions i have before i consult a vet if need be
1. I would assume they do but does petco get from CBB or do they import (thinking possible parasite infection?)
2. Can a RI cause a baby to not gain weight?

Whatever it is, it is not contagious as her cage mate is healthy and gaining weight. Which in part is why im worried, one growing, one not. And from what ive seen most snake illness is contagious, but this is not as they have been together for over a month and one is 100% healthy and the other is just not gaining weight.

Any ideas will help, i can post pictures later if i can find my usb cable for my dslr, but the snake looks normal except the irriated nasal area and that its bothering me by how underweight it is.

Also it is eating like a champ too, one hopper a week like clockwork.

Your snake is probably stressed. BPs seldom seek out the companionship of their kind except for mating season.

I would separate her and ensure she was feeding and take a stool sample to the Vet to check for internal parasites.

Thanks for the advice. Not 100% sure shes stressed they seem to enjoy eachothers company, but i can try it.

I always separate them for eating anyway so i know that she is eating 100% of the time, i usually watch them while they are eating to make sure they eat.

Visually just seems like shes not getting any nutrition from eating once a week, how common is it for stores like petco to carry animals with parasites?

I am fairly certain that the majority of the ball pythons that come into petco are CH babies... I am not 100% on that, but at least the petcos around here seem to have it set up that way.

As Deb said, it sounds like an internal parasite. The other possible cause could be a developmental defect, for which there is not likely much that can be done. I have seen/heard about snakes that simply developed improperly prior to hatching, and were unable to digest food properly... Ultimately these snakes do not usually survive.

I doubt that a developmental issue would be the problem, especially if she's eating regularly, and defecating without difficulty.

I would DEFINITELY keep the two housed separately though. Even if it doesn't appear to be contagious, it may take a long period of time before any signs manifest themselves in the healthier snake. Personally I feel that it wouldn't be worth the risk of housing them together regardless...

Another option could be increasing her food intake. Instead of a single hopper, perhaps offer her 2 in one sitting if she is large enough, or offer every 5 days instead of once a week until she starts putting weight on. It's difficult to really give a perfect suggestion without seeing the snake, but those are typically decent starting points.

Good luck!

well it seems like most people are in agreement that its somekind of parasite, is there anything i can buy online that will treat it? (hate paying vet for meds)

There are probably tons of things you could buy online... but without knowing exactly what you're trying to treat, odds are you'd be doing more harm than good... Of course if you're an experienced microbiologist, you could probably just run the tests yourself and determine exactly what medications would be the most effective against the specific infection... but most people don't have that experience... and even for those of us that do, there are many medications that are available by prescription only.

I agree that vet fees are often a little outrageous, but sometimes it's really the only course of action that is an option to ensure that the animal gets the required treatment...
