Rich,
Several months ago I posted a thread, I think in the General Herp Talk forum about a contest I was holding. In order for someone to particiapte in the contest, they had to visit my website to see the rules and the actual trivia question. Because a visit to my site was needed, I included a link to my site in the thread here at fauna. You moved my thread to the New or Updated Websites and Web Resources which you show as: General notices about a new website or a newly found one worthy of note. You can introduce your new website here as well.
Because of that move I think I have lost a lot of potential hits for my contest. When you moved the thread you said that I was basically telling people to look at my site, and that such a thread was not in the proper forum. In fact I was telling people to look at and particiapte in the contest. Going to my site was and remains a necessasry requirement of joining the contest, but looking at my site was not the reason I started the contest and is not the reason I seek participants in my contest. I am hoping to get people, especially younger herpers, interested in reading about herps. My contest has a number of herp related books as prizes. I amj certainly not making any money off of this either, nor am I making money from people visiting my site through direct or indirect means such as sales of herps. I have not sold a herp in quite a while through my site.
Since my contest thread was moved to the New or Updated Websites and Web Resources forum I have noticed many people in various forums who start threads or make posts in already ongoing threads wherein they say, hey look at the pic of my snake here at my website. Then they post a link to their site. I do not remember any of these being moved lately. Is there a reason that my thread which was relative to a contest I was running, was considered as improper for the General Herp Talk forum (surely my contest has dealt so far with various types of herps or herps in general) and that these other threads and posts have not been considered inappropriate in the forums in which they are placed?
I would rather not post about specific thread in which this can be found, I don't want to piss people off by being the reason one of their threads or posts was moved; but if you look around a little I think you will see what I mean. In light of these other posts and threads remaining where they were first placed, yet showing a link to the posters website, and in light of the fact that my post will address a contest about herps albeit with a necessary link to my site, I am hopeful that I would be allowed to post about my contest in the General Herp Discussions. I seem to remember that we were not allowed to place a thread or post that said - hey look at my new site unless it was in the New Web Site forum; but I am posting one that says hey come join the new contest just like someone else says hey check out my pics. Let me know what you think. Thanks
Best regards,
Glenn B
