    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What are some pure cat breeds that are/can be black or atleast more than 50% black. If anyone can just list some that they know of I'd truly appreciate it.

Persians, American shorthairs....

Do you mind if I ask why you posted this question? Is it a genetics question?

Most of the breeds out there can be black or mostly black. It's a common color because it's a dominant color. Almost any breed you can think of can be black.

No, it isn't a genetic question. I am just curious, I mainly only like black cats with maybe some grey/white on them. Almost all breeds can be potentially black? Pure breds?

I mean I am looking to get a pure bred cat soon and I'd prefer a cat that isn't just a normal old cheap/free cat. Possibly after some years of working with it get it a companion and let them breed.

There is a *lot* that goes into breeding cats. You have to make sure you start with sound breeding stock, which will cost quite a bit of money, and there are a lot of health problems associated with many breeds. Most of the time you can't just throw them together and "let them breed". Some males are aggressive with females who are not in heat and must be kept separate. Most if not all unneutered males (there are few exceptions) will spray- are you prepared to have extremely smelly cat pee in your house, usually *not* in the litterbox? Remember that not all births are easy for cats, either- you'll have to be prepared to rush momma to the vet in the middle of the night and pay at least $300-400 for an emergency c-section if something goes wrong. Honestly, I think you best bet would be to look through websites like www.cfainc.org and http://www.acfacats.com/ and decide what breed you like, then find a good breeder in your area and either buy a retired show/breeder quality cat that is already spayed or neutered, or buy a kitten and have it spayed/neutered. If you *really* love the breed and decide you want a litter, a good breeder will be happy to guide you through the process of choosing the right bloodlines, finding quality breeding stock, and keeping them healthy while producing healthy, quality kittens. It's not easy, and definitely not profitable.

whoa whoa lol. you are way ahead of me there. I don't plan on getting into any breeding or anything of the sort for another 5 years+

I am just looking to get some ideas of some nice pure blood lines that I could consider. I just want a single kitten for now... well actually for in several months.

Thank you for the sites. I really like the Egyptian Mau, American Short-hair, and Bombay. Any input on these breeds anyone?

There is honestly no profit in the breeding? How do people afford to do it?

All three of those breeds are fairly uncommon and may be difficult to find. I honestly don't know too much about their temperment. And, there is no profit in breeding. By the time you pay for vet care for mom (or both parents), high quality kitten food for mom and babies, and have the kittens vaccinated and vet checked before finding them homes, it's nearly impossible to make a profit. Most breeders either don't keep more than a couple cats, or have very well paying jobs. :D Most good breeders also show, which often includes travelling, and the only financial gain from showing comes from getting your name out there as a good breeder with quality cats. It's an expensive hobby, but fun.
