In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So my spider female which was bred to my butter pastel male laid a clutch last week of 5 eggs. About two days ago i realized the egg on top was starting to smell bad and had started to turn blue in one area. i seperated it from the rest and today i checked on it again and it had only gotten worse, when i candled it the light almost didnt shine through and it looked yellow so i decided to throw it away. I cut it open and what was inside was a solid yellow mass and the area outside the egg that was blue had moved inside the egg. Does anyone know what causes this? I forgot to mention that i candled all the eggs when i first got the clutch and they where all viable, the egg in question was the worst looking one but it had some vascular development. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sooooo many things could cause it. Many times it's probably a miscarriage-type situation--that the egg wasn't going to make it. Sometimes it's a weaker egg and incubation temp swings affect it. Sometimes humidity.

I'd guess that it was not meant to live anyway. Good luck with the rest!

Sometimes the eggs just fail to thrive, it seems though that the mold may have infiltrated the egg. This could have been the reason the egg died, or the egg dying could be the reason the mold was inside. Hopefully the rest of the clutch will be fine.
Good luck

It actually means an unfertilized egg. It happens especially if you don't do any brumation or if it is her first clutch. You didn't do anything wrong. Next time try candling them first. Some times even if you get one with no veining you can't separate them from the stack. Be very careful and unless the bad one is affecting the rest, leave it alone.

Whoops, just saw the part about candling, usually an infertile egg has no or very little veining.

This wasnt her first clutch but she was alittle smaller than i would have liked(1800 grams). When i candled them it did have veins but very little. I agree with you it must have been infertile from the start

Brumation? You do realize this is ball pythons, right?

OP, some eggs just don't make it. Could have been any number of things, not necessarily something you did or didn't do.

Good luck with the rest of the clutch.
