Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I was wondering if I can "soak"Mi gecko in like water? Thanks!
and also how do you guys keep/take care of 20+ geckos and were do you keep them all? :)

You can soak it in enough water to touch it's stomach. And I have all of my geckos in a rack system and tubs.. Which makes it a lot easier to care for them I have 20 geckos in about a 5.5 foot (height) x 3 foot bookcase-type rack.

yeah, as josh said a soak in belly high water is fine

most breeders who have more than 20 geckos keep them in rack systems, with heat tape running through each shelf for heating, its pretty reliable, and organized... and definitely better then having 500 tanks everywhere, lol

heres a old photo of my racks from last year, everything was changed around after this photo, and a new incubator was added

and heres how i keep my adults
i now use brown kraft paper as the substrate though, looks better, lol

Yup.... I just got my new rack setup...
and I can't believe how easy it has made my life. My rack holds 16 22 quart, or 32 11 quart rubbermaids.... I have a hatchling rack as well that will old almost 50 11 quarts...

I still have tanks everywhere though for my snakes and cresties...lol

Aside from a shallow water bowl large enough for him to soak in if he wants to, just provide a dark moist hide and that should be adequate for moisture. Is your gecko having a problem shedding that prompts you to ask this question or did you just think of giving him a bath as he might enjoy it?

I guess that I am one of the few that still has their Leos in aquariums all over the house
the upside (well at least to me) is that there is easy viewing and I always have a gecko or two in the room that i am in-LOL
I am considering a rack but I'm still not sure-at this point it would have to be homemade for sure
Sandy

I kinda bucked the trend for a while as well Sandra, but it just got to be too much, especially now that I am breeding selected males with selected females. Just makes my life a heck of a lot easier knowing that female A is in tub C and was mated with Male B, ya know?

My rack is homemade, fairly easy to make and most building supply places now will make simple cuts for you to spec.

Here's the plans to a simple rack...

I've been luck that I'd only had to do a few soaks so far. Just be careful that you don't fill it too high, and make sure to keep an eye on the temps as well. I know in my house the water gets cold pretyy quickly.

The racks are really great for housing large numbers of leos (I've got tons of old aquariums that I used to us), but those aquariums take up so much space. Only wish I could give the little guys a little more natural environment in the rack, but that's the trade off I suppose. Here's my Leo Rack:

lol... thats an awfully furry leo on top there Brian!

Yeah, I know what you mean about the tradeoff... its the main reason I keep my cresties in tanks, though, if they keep expanding as my leos have, I'll have to rethink that as well. My fatties are all still in tanks, mainly because my first three herps were fat tails and they are still mostly "pets", don't get me wrong, I love all my animals equally, but thses fatties were what started it and have a very special place in my heart

Now that I'm getting (mostly) out of breeding, I'm kind of converting everything back to tanks and nice display cages. They're not done yet, but I'll be sure to post pictures when they are. I guess it all came down to how much work I wanted to spend. Cleaning 14 aquariums was an all-day project, now cleaning that rack (including dishes and hides) is done in about 2 hours. But at the same time I can't see them all really easily. It's a trade off for sure.

You know, its funny, I actually like the rack cause I seem to interact more with the leos? I mean, every night I take them out and give the tub a wipe. In the tank I used to just reach in and do whatever spot cleanings needed to be done and once a week take them out for a good tank cleaning.

BUt for sure on a viewing basis tanks are a little better....

I look forward to seeing your tabnk setups Brian, and great cat, I had two I had to give away right around this time last year as my young son developed allergies, broke my heart, but the silver lining was it got me into herps, my first gecko, the fat tail, is named Jaxey, the Jax comes from Jaxon, one of my cats, and the -ey comes from Smokey, the other of the two...

I switched over to a rack system this year too, It has made my life alot easier. For the cleaning as everyone has mentioned already. But also I have more room now too. Thats a big plus for me. It is a trade off for sure on the veiwing. But there was a new PetSmart built not to far from me. When it first open we went there to check it out and get some stuff for the dogs. While we were there I went and checked out the herp section. They had some really cool clear plastic shoe and sweater boxes. They were the same size as the 6 qt. and 12 qt boxes I already was using. On the down side I thought they were a little pricey compared to the Sterlite boxes. I believe the small ones were like 5-6 dollars and the larger ones were like 10-11 dollars. A big difference from 1-2 dollars. But I guest it is up to if you have the money or not.

I should have those tanks done (or at least partially) sometime this weekend. I plan on doing a bamboo waterfall and the whole thing. Should be pretty cool.

Orion really is a great cat. He's so friendly to me but he's not a big fan of stangers (especially children... dramatic first christmas part for him..lol). He's very talkative as well. Not that anyone cares, but I'm happy to show him off... I took these on Saturday:

That is a great looking cat, I had a cat up until pretty recently. He terrorized the dog, they both slept in my room though so that was a fiasco. I lock my door at night so nobody wakes me up in the morning, unfortunately, the cat knew how to open doors so it would slam itself into the handle and make horrible noises in the middle of the night. All in all he was a great kitty  . I really like that black and white shot

nice cat :)

I never really seemed to like racks.I hate the fact they take up floor space or desk/dresser space. After thinking about it i came up with the ideer of a wall mounted rack supported by the wall and chains from the ceiling.Me and my daddy-o should have it done in the next coupple months.cant wait:)

that is a nice looking rack you have there saltwaterreptiles. here are my racks

lol... sorry.... I giggle everytime someone says I have a nice rack! lol...

:dgrin:

Yeah, its pretty big and should be good for a little while, considering I have a seperate hatchling rack as well. I was thinking of putting a tank on top of mine as well but I use it as a work space for cleaning, feeding, etc. too much and space is of the premium!

omg thanks every one for posting.See there is a reptile show soon and I really am gunna get like 20 animals lol
