In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have an Anole in a 5 and a half tank. This is a heating question and nobody ever answers in the other lizard forum anyway. He needs the light I know this much. What wattage of light would be appropriate for a 5 and a half and how would I get it on? I can't just set it on the lid because he hangs on there and I can't clamp it on because theres a lid. :shrug01: Any suggestions??

That size tank may be a problem. Being so small it wouldn't give the Anole the room to thermo regulate and it'll probably be too warm regardless of the bulb size.

:iagree: Exactly what I was thinking :iagree:

Ok, I am going to the Pet Store this Monday so tell me if this will work? I don't know anything about hooking up running water and such so no. I've always misted him twice a day and hes done fine there. For a five inch Lizard how about a ten gallon instead? Gex is in a ten gallon with a 50 watt red bulb and hes fine so I imagine this would work. If anybody heres getting a 20 its my Gecko, hes bigger. I do have to say though out of any animals setup the Anoles is the most lavish with live plants and stuff. So will this work?

A 10 gallon should be fine. Here's a site I found that had some info on anole husbandry regarding lighting and heating. Snakes 'N' Adders

Green & Brown Anole Care Sheet

Green Anole Care Sheet

Common Name: Green Anole Latin Name: Anolis carolinensis

Native to: Southeastern USA Size Range: 4" to 20"

Lifespan: 4 years in captivity

General Appearance: Small green lizard with pointed nose, and tail often twice as long as its body. Changes color to brown when cold or stressed. Both sexes have red throat fans (male's is bigger and brighter), long skinny toes with ridges on bottom for gripping.

Housing Requirements

Enclosure: Minimum 10 gallon tank for 2 anoles. Must have branches for climbing and basking. Live plants work well.

Temperature: 780 to 850 F during day. (As measured by thermometer)
Basking site 900F
650 to 750F at night
Heat rocks are not recommended

Heat/Light: Incandescent spotlight for basking site. UV lighting providing UVB & UVA for calcium metabolism is necessary. 14 hours light /day

Substrates: Bark mulch, or topsoil work well. Topsoil works best if enclosure is to be heavily planted.

Environment: 60-70% relative humidity. Should be misted twice daily.

Diet: Anoles are insectivores. They will eat crickets, mealworms, waxworms, cockroaches and other small insects. They must be supplemented with calcium and vitamin D. Anoles love strained fruits. Daily feeding is recommended.

Maintenance: Cleanliness of environment is important. All cage fixtures must be removed and cleaned frequently. Hand washing after handling anoles or cage furnishings is essential.
