In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey everyone! I would like to hear some opinions on the roundups. I do not agree with them, but I also have never been to one. There is one in Sweetwater, TX next weekend and I am thinking of checking it out.

My own opnion is that it is fine for me to call whoever I need to call to 'round up' rattlers in my back yard (I have never seen one in my back yard, btw, but if I should I would want it to go elsewhere); and theoretically to remove rattler populations from private properties and from public areas like schools and parks where small children play.
I have seen where some farmers have suffered harm from bites and it should be their prerogative to keep their own areas safe for themselves and their families and livestock. But I see no sense in going out and butchering the wild populations of these snakes.

Here are some past opinions:

i agree, round-up's are making less and less of the native crotalid's species dissapear. thus i would like to have them banned. i did enter in a atrox sacking contest which i also think should be banned. not only for the safty of the ppl doing it but the over all stress on the animals. thanks

Shaun, I realize this is a year old, but did you go? If so, what did you think?

I have my own opinion on these roundups, but since I have never been to one, I'll hold my tounge for now.

Well, seems that Sweetwater has had their annual mass murder of the Crotalus Atrox in their county.
From what I have read about it for this year, this was one of their largest ones yet' with more Crotalus slaughtered than usual in past years.
I sent them another email asking them when they were going to cease this horrendous killing. They replied that they get many such emails and that they tell everyone the same thing. It brings in a lot of money to and for the county of Sweetwater, and they have no intention of even considering stopping the 'roundup' in the future.
I replied with 'did they realize the impact this has on the ecosystem there'? I received no reply.

Never underestime the power of an absurd spectacle. I enjoy hunting, fishing, and eat animal flesh on a regular basis.

But, flushing an animal out of it's lair with gasoline, killing it for no reason, then acting like you have done some public service is just asinine.

The only bright spot, is that it brings money into Sweetwater, Texas, and reduces the amount of taxes I have to pay (in welfare) for those idiots.

Why don't they have a "stupid redneck" roundup, and kill and eat them. I bet they'd make a lot more money.
