In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I got a red sided skink yesterday. He was out for a couple hours but since has been burrowed in the substrate. His head was out during the day but now hes completely buried again. He hasnt eaten or drank anything. Should I be worried?

Also can they have any companions or should they be left alone?

Thanks! :)

It could take your skink a few days to adjust to it's new cage. They don't have to have companions and it would probably do best by its self. How are keeping it?

Hope that helps!

Thanks Ryan!

So it will stay burrowed until its comfortable? Is this kind of skink able to be handled like a blue tongue?

We have him in a 30 gallon long tank alone. He has lizard litter and a huge water tray, big enough for him to get into. Also a wood cave and some fake plants.

Is the light supposed to be on during the day or at night? Ive been putting it on in the morning and during it off when I go to bed.

I have never actually kept a red sided skink but I do have three fire skinks, and I heard they're pretty similar. My skinks love to stay burrowed and only come up to get a drink or look for food. Even though I now they are fine I still dig them up to check on them and make sure they eat and drink. I feed mine in a little "critter keeper" cage so they don't dig back into they ground when I try to feed them. I'm not sure if red sided skinks can be tamed but my fire skinks are a little skittish, but they're just new babys and will probally tame with handling and hand feeding. The cage is find but I'm not sure what lizard litter is. I use ground up coconut fiber that comes in compressed bricks that expand in water My skinks love it. What kind of light are you using? I have a Zoomed powersun bulb that is heat/light/UVB bulb and I like it. Also remember to dust its food with calcium and if your red sided skink is anything like my fire skinks it will love to be misted and have a high humidity. But not so high as to have everything soaked, just damp. I just take a cup of water every couple of days and pour it on the screen lid it "rains". Remember to still look on care sheets though because some aspects of their care could be different than fire skinks.
Good luck!

I use lizard litter, its white fir and eucalyptus chips, very fine and soft. He had his head poked out earlier today but burrowed back in. I have a 75 Watt UV basking light in a 10 inch dome. I may be giving him to another owner as I may be getting a baby blue tongue. Im more knowledgeable when it comes to that kind of skink.

Have you been bitten?

Thanks for all the help! :)

Got him to eat tonight! His head was poking out so I put a tray with a little cat food in front of him and left. When I came back it was gone! I almost want to keep in at this point but have to talk the bf into getting another tank for him when we get the BT this Sunday. :D
