In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My trouble started on 4/15/03.She (Tracey Lyons) posted an ad for some rescue herps that she had and didn't have proper lighting and facilities for. She listed 4 Leo Geckos 4 Bearded Dragons 2 ball Pythons & 1 Iguana. I contacted her and told her i had room for the geckos and beardeds. She emailed me back telling me that all but 2 of the bearded dragons were gone.So I sent her $30 dollars via Paypal to ship them. She told me she would ship them on thur.4/17.On Fri.4/18 nothing ever came.I emailed her 3 times over the weekend. She answered me on Mon.4/21 saying they would be sent out at 2 pm that day. Waited all day on Tues......yep you guessed it ,still nothing came.I again emailed her on Wed.4/23 asking for my money back as I had already wasted 2 whole days and didn't want to deal with her anymore.I still have not gotten nor do I foresee a reply. Also all of her ads have disappeared. This is the 1st time I've had a problem with a transaction online,so I guess I'm lucky it was only $30 and not a whole lot more.

Thanks for reading my little rant

Related?

Dan,

You didn't list an email address for this person, but is this the same Lyons that is referenced here ?

Any further details you can provide, including email addresses, phone numbers, or posting emails will be helpful.

Sorry about this situation. I hope it can still be resolved.

Yes it is the same person!!!

I have emailed everyday to then I also was getting these so called rescues (boas) as well as some beardies from her brother, I did finally recieve and email saying they were in car wreck etc.. and it would be a few days, I how ever sent $240.00 via pay pal.
I filed with paypal the next day as I never recieved an email from then since I sent the money.I also emailed again today with ofcourse still no responce..

the rest of my story is on another thread w/ tracy and david lyons..
yes their ads just vanish right after I sent the money too..

I'm sorry you got hit by them also
This is the first time I have had troubles of this nature..

Best of luck to you..

Sandie

Sandie,

I was reading your other thread, and I saw that these individuals were supposedly located in Missouri. Did you know where? A few of us live here in MO, and someone might be able to go see what's going on in person. Dan, if you know where they're supposed to be, chime right in! Let us know.

I don't know about you, Darin, but I'm getting a little tired of people giving Missouri a bad name! There seem to be a few of them roaming around here...unless they're all related!!

I agree, let us know if you have additional info on these folks and we'll see if we can't sniff them out ;)

C'mon now, Terese . . .

You KNOW they're all related!! :D

I am tired of these people giving Missouri a bad name, though, and I am serious about going to see someone that is being less than honest in a deal here. Let us know if we can help!

I wish I knew where in MO they were!!! I have recieve some nasty emails back saying that I will be turned in for being a non- understanding person.. also that 14 of the so called dragons have died. and I am suppose to pay for these.. remeber these were never shipped...

I don't understand why it is taking so long to get our money back still... he is waiting for ??? I just don't know, when we sent the money to him it wasa instant.. so why is it taking so long for him to send it back to us???

Sorry all I wasn't ignoring your replies. I'm still new at this and couldn't get back in to answer you.I posted everything that I knew about tlyons but I'm looking at some old emails to see if they gave me any other info that would be helpful.Thank you for the offer to go see her in person.I do wish I had an address to give you.I still haven't gotten a reply from my last email asking for my money back.I never got an excuse as to why they weren't shipped, last I heard was they were to be shipped at 2 pm on monday 4/21. It really sucks that they haven't returned your money either and that it was a substantial amount.

Thanks,Dan Hocker

Right now I wish I lived in the Ozarks too.

Dear Sam,

Hi my name is Christy. You were to get 22 beardies and
2 snakes. I have some news to inform you. My sister
and brother inlaw was going to the ups hub to send out
your reptiles. My sister is in real bad shape. There
was a car being chased by police and the car was hit
in passenger door. Which my sister was in. My brother
inlaw is getting out tomorrow and the retiles are at
the vet. We lost 1 boa and 3 dragons. They are to be
released in a few days. My brother wanted me to find
out who they were going to and send a e-mail. I am
sorry. I was just able to get on the pc tonight I have
been at the hospital all night and all day. As sson as
they are release from the vet I will send them.

Again I am sorry,
Christy

Ok you are the one I was taking the beardies to the UPS Hub. Then I was hit by a car. Now you are being rude to the situation. I just got out of the hospital and I see in your reply my sister inlaw sent to you explaining to situation. My wife sent the money to our bank and I just sent the money back to paypal. I see you reported it to paypal. I will get the money in my account soon to send you the money back dont worry about that. You will also be report for being non understand to what happened. I still dont know if my wife will pull through. She has sever damage to her back neck and brain. Just think if your wife was hit and she may die. Would you want this to be happening to you? As for the beardies I see you have not asked about 14 died from stress and more may still. Both snakes are gone as well. I hope that if this happened to you that no one who ever be so non understanding. As soon as The money transfers back from my account I will send you the money. Again I just got out of the hospital and have to go through all my mail that built up. I do hope you understand and I am misreading how unconserend with the well fair of my wife who could still die.

Ok it was NEVER my intentions to be rude! I said I was very sorry for the accident, but I also waited many times for a reply.. I don't think I acted to hastely I did ask for a phone number to speak with someone in person. I also asked for the vets phone number to check on the animals. I guess you didn't see that part of my email..
I assumed that she would still be waiting for a reply or check back on the email to see that I had indeed requested a phone number. yes I reported you to pay pal, I am sure if you were me you would do the same thing. I am not a mean person I do rescue just as you do.. I also spent every dime I had on those babies and rescues.. I am very sorry about you and your wife as well as the animals, but I never recieved a phone number or an address, I had no contact with anyone untill I did indeed report to pay pal..
If this is indeed because of lack of communication so be it. If you would like to report me that is fine as well.. As soon as we recieve the money I will go back and retract all that was said..
We will be praying for the health of you and your wife.
Sandie

I did see that you requested a phone number. But
Christy just let you know what happened. That is all.
And since we are returning your money back there is no
need for a phone number or vets number is there. I do
feel that if I was on the other side of this I would
wait alittle bit. You reported us to paypal because
you received no e-mail we we couldnt in the hospital
now could we. My wife is no better. Like I said I will
return the money as soon as it is back in paypal.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I don't understand why it is taking so long for them to get to pay pal over this???

Well I hope this helps, though I don't see where it could, that was the last words I have heard.. Keep in mind if you will I wrote to these people everyday!!!!

I know it can occasionally happen to anyone and sometimes things come up that are more important than someone's herps...

But why does it seem as if these horrible tradgedies happen to people who were questionable to begin with more often than good guys?

Why is it that people who haven't shown themselves to be anything but difficult to deal with to start... after they run out of minor problems to claim prevented them from doing what they should have, always end up with some life altering devistating problem?

That kid who was trying to get free axanthic ball pythons "Had a feeding accident" and ended up in the hospital... his "friend" with the same IP address told us all so...

I seem to recall a few instances of family members dying or being diagnosed with terminal illnesses as being excuses given in the past as well...

I regard this sort of thing as a seriously sketchy situation and one I find morally repulsive... Actual accidents happen to people, people have real, serious problems that affect their lives and their livelyhood... some cheapskate two bit crook trying to get out of sending animals that were paid for by lying about something like this as an excuse is disgusting. Same goes for anyone who claims some sort of disability makes them deserving of free animals and hasn't actually got a disability... Just lies and a lack of ethics.

Now... I suppose this guy could have been in a car accident and his wife COULD be in serious condition... But if he has time to write an email, he has time to reverse the paypal transaction. If he's writting an email to begin with, it should only take a few seconds to put in some phone numbers at the bottom... The fact that he got belligerant and deffensive... after multiple excuses and delays on two simultaneous transactions, then concluded it with what must be understood to be (statistically) a VERY unlikely situation...

If it talks like a crook and it acts like a crook and it smells like a crook...

Well, it ain't a duck.

Egads!

I need to start sleeping at night I think, the misspellings and typos in the post above this one are terrible.

I'm with you, Seamus (typos and all ;) ) and it just doesn't ring true to me.

Soooooo, being the stubborn person I am, I scanned the local news sites around Missouri searching for any mention of an accident involving a high speed chase, since those types of things send the media into a frenzy, and came up with nada.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm just saying I couldn't find any references to it.

Please keep us updated as to refunds, further contact, etc.

I also went through every MO paper I could find online searching for the same thing..
I have sent other emails that I did not post here.
Many just demanding my money back.. I hope he responds soon...
I did try to do a dns look up on the IP addy that the mail came from...
No good so far..

On a different Board

A couple of years ago on a different board/different hobby someone came on to the board who claimed to have knowledge of a particular member who just died in an accident. Out flowed a beautiful story of how nice the deceased was and what a tragic accident it was. The new user also said that as the estate was being managed he knew that in due time everyone that was owed something would get it.

Everyone responded with prayers and well wishing to the family until finally several months later people started to suspect that the new user was in fact the deceased. It was noticed first because this "new" user seemed to know too much stuff about previous deals. Then someone else noticed that they made the same typos that the dead person made. After many serious inquiries the new user finally admitted it was them.

I'm a little skeptical about accident stories now and I think it is appropriate for it to be that way. My apologies to anybody I offended if the story in this thread is true.

I'm a little skeptical about accident stories now and I think it is appropriate for it to be that way. My apologies to anybody I offended if the story in this thread is true.

I tend to be too, especially when the accident conveniently happens when there are numerous outstanding debts or the person is being caught as a bad guy before it all happens.

It's really just another lie from someone who had a habit of doing it to begin with when it's falsified, but somehow it's worse to claim there was an accident... it seems to carry a greater weight when looking at the ethics involved.

I'm usually one of the last people to ever worry about anything insulting someone. I offend people constantly, most the time without meaning to and more often than not I'm willing to support any insult that I make... And almost never would I restrain myself from expressing my opinions even when they might be offensive (Or are certain to be offensive)... But the sorts of lies, speaking in the hypothetical now for a moment, the ones that claim an uncontrollable and terrible accident has occured really are insulting to people who have actually had something negative and signifigant affect their lives. It also does a great disservice by making people wary of these stories, making them question the truth when something bad does happen.

Getting back to the specifics involved here... A police chase that ends with a bystander in critical condition and hospitalized would certainly make at least the local news in every area I've ever lived in and I doubt Missouri is all that different. If the online sources and local papers have been checked and there's no story, it does cast additional doubt on the validity of this individual's claims.

If PayPal has been hanging on reversing the transaction because the money was moved to another account, that also casts some doubt on the validity of the transaction to begin with. It's not an uncommon practice for people to immediately transfer funds to protect themselves, but when it's coupled with dishonesty it does raise additional suspicion.

Since an address is not forthcoming and they seem to refuse to provide a phone number and PayPal doesn't exactly have a great track record for protecting it's users... it might be time to contact the FBI's internet fraud division... I know at least a couple of you have the URL right at hand and possibly the phone number too, if someone could post it (And save me the thirty seconds it would take to find it myself) it might be decent to add to this thread.

In addition to my semi-substantiated suspicion about the possibility of the car accident being a lie... I'm sort of getting a feeling that the animals never existed to begin with. I'm also getting a feeling that the person sending the emails, in addition to not being their own sister (Look at the writing styles) is possibly a juvenile. PayPal has to be connected to a bank account, a bank account has to have an address, the Internet Fraud people can easily track down the owner of the account (Adult or Juvenile), a call or visit from Federal Agents tends to prompt people to do the right thing.

Has anyone directly informed this person of this thread by the way? If they have anything to add, somehow I'd wager it won't be proof of their previous statements, but they should be invited to participate anyway.

Ok what does this mean???
Does this mean he is saying he already refunded our money???
cause he hasn't??

Help!?!? Please.. could someone explain this to me..

Thanks
Sandie

That states that he has 5 days to produce proof of the refund he is telling PayPal he's made. At the end of 5 days without proof of the refund the investigation will continue.

It looked as though he was saying he had already refunded our money, scared me.. lol
This is crazy already, he needs to pay up I am tired of waiting. I paid with in 5 minutes of the time I said I would pay.. now it is his turn..
I am so tired of dishonest people.. it would seem my whole week has been full of them..
