In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

just looking for general thoughts and experiences...I have a big amel corn that's about to hit his 10th birthday, and he still helps with 100% hatch rate with whomever he's bred to...just curious what other's experiences are.

I have a few corns over 10 and they are still producing large clutchs with 98 to 100 percent hatch rate. As long as that keeps happening I'm going to keep breeding them. Retirement is for animals and people that can't work anymore. IMHO

Well, I have to agree...as long as he's producing so well, why think about putting him out to bask?  Besides, after this long, I'd say that his annual breeding is part of his "quality of life" and should not be taken away from him just because he's getting along in years.  Heck, maybe your snake plans on being like a few dirty old men found in nursing homes and most communities around the world...he figures that if he's got to die, he might as well die in the process of breeding with the old proverbial smile on his face.   <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>   Just let him do his thing as long as he's a good producer for you.

We've been facing the same scenario and looking ahead.  Believe that from this year's clutches we'll keep a couple of each sex to raise up as future breeders.  Especially our snow corns as we'll look for the high pinks and partial zig-zags of our male in a male offspring to better carry on the genetics line.  You might think about something similar depending on your own situation.

Nicole, I guess that all depends on what your goal is in captive breeding.  Sure he can breed, I personally know a guy who has 20+ year old corns that still regularily produce year after year.  On the other hand I have a few 10+ year old corns that I haven't bred for years now.  Not that they can't get it done anymore, but because I'm continually trying to improve my stock and I have better looking snakes to breed now (many that carry genes from my old guys)  Sure, I could still use them for breeding, but I would consider that going backwards from the goals I have in mind.  That doesn't mean that I'm planning on getting rid of them anytime soon.  These are the first ones I grab whenever I'm called on to do hands on type educational shows with my animals.  I just don't breed them anymore.
