In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I just start me breeding project for ASF Rats and Mice. I am using rodent blocks as my feed. The problem that I am having in that i think my mice are eating to much food just because its their. Each tub have 1.4 mice and they are eating a large handful of rodent blocks per day, well I'm about 6 hours. Is this normal for them to eat this much ?

If this is not normal does anyone know a way i can make something this is cheap and reliable for the rodent feed, that wont have my rodents eating all day every day.

I notice on rat racks that he food is on top of some kind of metal wire..can the rodent really eat the food from their ?

I don't have issues with mice doing that - but ASF rats chew the block down just because it is there...and they are chewing, not eating, as the residual coats the bedding

Try using 1/4 mesh for the mice and ASF. If you use too big of a mesh alot of the food will get wasted. I use the 1/4 hardware cloth and only fill my mouse food bins once a month.

Ok thanks Byron

I've found that giving the ASF plenty of things to chew on helps to keep down the amount of food they waste.....they really do seem to chew up the feed block even when using the wire mesh. Keeping wood blocks and such in with them tends to reduce their boredom related chewing on the food blocks. I've also been giving them whole ear corn, and they really seem to enjoy chewing on that.

To date I haven't had a problem with ASF just chewing to be chewing. They have on taken advantage on my fingers tho.

Of course now that I'm posting this they'll start chewing on everything.

Well thank you for your advice everyone. Well I went to Home Depot today and picked up some 1/2'' Cloth Wire. And I did a little bending and make a few of this little holders for the food. With a little bending they will hang on the cage securely

THAT is going to be a big pain in the butt, lol.

Not really its pretty easy to open..if you can see it in the picture their are individual sides to the cage and they come right off..it works great for me thats all it matters.. :D

Trust me.....after the umpteenth time you poke your finger on that wire, you may think differently, lol. I would be very concerned with the pokey wires sticking out injuring eyes on the rodents as well.

One idea you may want to look into are hanging suet feeders. They are very similar to the idea I think you're going for, but have no sharp edges or "pokey" wires, and have a very easy-opening door. I've seen the wire gauge and openings on these in different sizes, but here's a quick link to see what I'm talking about. (look at the very top left pic)

Oh those pics i took was just the pictures right after i made it. I notice their were some sharp edges so i cut those down/off and bend some of them so their would be curved edges. So far they are working good for me..
