In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

sad

Love this debate.

Like I said I like this debate, but there are pretty much two main points. Buy or don't buy? I honestly think every post for this Thread makes a point. I apologize I am quick to "lay my opinion down." :) Really, and this is very sad, but things just seem like there never gonna change. Unless the Laws change! Doubt it. Maybe? In the case of the Suppliers shipping them to young, or sickly, or whatever. How high is the percentage on that, really? I always thought it was mainly the Pet Store. This issue makes me angry, as well as obviously everybody else. I have had my own experiences. 1 out of 2 reptiles were bad. I have Gex the Leopard Gecko, and Jake the Corn Snake. He was the first one I bought. I bought Jake from Pet Connections, and they got me!!!! He had a dent, somebody squished him between a lid. They said that they never took him to a Vet or anything like that. Its just not policy that the Reptiles get medical treatment, but they made it all better by saying that if a cat or dog got hurt they would get those animals checked out. Jake was $34.95.

I didn't get any kind of a reduction for a previously injured animal. I wonder if thats because they could tell I was gonna buy him no matter what? All they could tell me was that he might have some growing disfunctions as he gets older. I donno? I am not a Vet. How stupid does a person have to be though. Just from spending some time with him, and watching him I can tell that he has mobility disfunctions. his front, and behind him move fine, but when he moves the dented part of the body he has to twist it. Its weird lookin. I also do not EVEN want to think about if a dent like that bleed or what that whole experience was like! It makes me sick to think that ever happened to my Baby! Gex was bought at a small store called Callhouhns. He was sold as a "Two headed Gecko." Obviously not. Besides the tail, he looks healthy. We researched everything else to make sure you buy a healthy Gecko, but didn't think to look up what a regenerated tail looked like. The site was pretty good, it said to look for this, this, and this. We felt pretty confident about buying him.

Except the tail, he is our first Gecko. Then every time my Fiancee, and myself walk into a Pet store for food, or other things for them, its all wrong!!! Which also I am not to mad about the tail. Things like that can happen for a number of reasons. I can't say that he did it, or Gex got stuck, or some stupid little kid didn't go and grab him by his tail! I donno? The last two times we've went now that we have the animals were not so stupid about them, or what to buy for them. The first time it was small we asked an Employee about bedding for Gex, and the guy got it all wrong. I asked myself how in the world could he work at a Pet Store and not know simple substrate questions. The second time we say a Ball Python that had shed and defiantly not recently. Is that so healthy for the animal. I know why they did that! So everybody would be attracted to the Tank, and at least look at him. Hoping to make a sale. This all might not be that bad, but I know I am going to see worse eventually. I have two Babies, I can't avoid the Pet Store. The second time we went they were also out of Pinkies. How in the blue world do you run out of food for the animals.

They should have to have higher standards being a Pet Store, but they don't! The retail rules for Pet Stores? Its like there are none!! I have worked at a very reputable Grocery Store for two years now. You are buying better tooken care of packaged goods, and your Grocery Store has better rules, laws, and policy's then your Pet Stores guaranteed! Where are the Laws at, seriously!!

I only have one question more, and then I leave this issue alone...

What INCENTIVE does a sub-standard pet store have to change and make things better for their animals if we continue to buy sick, dying, starving, and injured reptiles from them?

I have been reading this being quite unsure of how to word my reply and Im not sure if I should even post now but...

I have rescued and paid to buy the "animals" to rescue them. Ive spent money that really should not have been spent to do this many times. All in all, I was heart broken, depressed and as capable as I am I was unable to save some from time to time.

So what did I do, I gave and yes I mean GAVE money to a sorry store/seller/retailer to be heartbroken and to allow my children to see and experience things they should never had to do.

I will no longer do that, I would be risking my entire reptile collection to keep doing rescue, Ive done it with all animals, not just leos and in the end I am the one that more often than not gets hurt.

If you don't want to see sick, uncared for pet smart animals -- DON'T GO THERE -- plain and simple!

Now IF and I mean IF you have no others animals that could be affected by your rescue attempts and be caused harm by your good doing, and you and your family will feel no pain if you are unsuccessful in your attempts and you have the money to do it with, GO FOR IT!

If any of the above cannot be done, DON'T!

Got to love the big chain pet store debate.

I personally would rather have no animals go through chain stores. However that won't fly, so if by boycotting them and not buying their sick animals shuts them down, and then inturn lowers the number of animals that suffer at their hands, then I feel that is the best approach.

At the end of the day, Pet stores don't look at the reason you bought them. They look at inventory. If they bought 30 geckos, and got profit for 20 of them, they are going to order another 30. Because they are SELLING.

Altho, the gecko mill statement is funny, I do have to retaliate. I work at a small pet store chain, and we order our leopards from a certain wholesaler thats name is WELL known. PM if you want the name. And I guarantee you, they come in with the skinniest tails I have ever seen.

I do admit, the big chain store debate is getting kinda old...

Yup

Its getting old now because we have debated everything! There is just nothing left to do or say.
