    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I don't use either sand or cage carpet but I am getting new enclosures I bought from Showcasecages.com and I was wondering which one would be better. I don't think tile will work in there that I have already. I have no experience in either of these. I know my dragons nails are a bit long but the rock I got only seems to help the back ones a little. Does having sand help this? Will they snag their nails on the cage carpet? I would appreciate any help from those who are nowledgeable in this. Thanks
Brenda

I don't like using carpet for terrestrial lizards because of the snagging problems. Also I've seen carpet fibers get around the toes of lizards restricting the blood flow and resulting in the loss of the toe if not corrected.
I've used sand with beardeds and had no problems, although I'm sure many will cry impaction and discourage you from using it. I preferred the brown construction grade sand and not the "playsand" more often used as a substrate. I kept dwarf monitors on that for years and it worked very well.
I liked cypress mulch the most and it was my substrate of choice with the beardeds. The main drawback with cypress is if you free feed insects they can easily hide in it.

I was told by the breeder I got my girls from to use the playsand it I wanted. I am trying on my one enclosure first. The girls seem to love it. They are kicking it everywhere. I had to move their food to a different spot higher up. Not sure if I like it yet. I had to make a few adjustments due to the sand, but we'll see.
Thanks

The part about sand I don't like is the dust that gets kicked up. After awhile a nice little layer of it will cover everything. And that dust has all kinds of gross stuff in it, not to mention the smell of it if you don't do a total sand change every week.. :ack2:

i dont like either. the carpet snags on the dragons claws, and sand is a b*tch to clean not to mention the smell (calcium sand) when it gets wet. the other sand is not digestible and could cause inpaction. i use newspaper. i doesent look all that great, but its cheap, and easy to clean/change. but for a display tank i would have to go with the sand.

All I know is that it is a mess. The girls are kicking it everywhere. Also I just bought a nice coffee table to use as a stand for my new enclosures and moving the one with sand took 3 people to move it by sliding it from one spot down to the coffee table. They kicked sad into their food so I moved it up on their shelf and they are not paying attention to it. I am so confused. I won't be able to use sand on the other enclosure. It sits on top of the other one and I don't think the table could hold that much and I hate paper towel. :confused:
