    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hopefully I'm posting this in the right spot! I have been looking at scales but I was wondering what the breeders are going to recommend. I'm thinking a bowl scale I can zero with different sized bowls. This is my problem though i want one that will weigh a neonatal to a large boa is there such a scale or will i have to buy 2?
I want to be able to weigh my snakes for progress, and in case they stop eating, and I can weigh them to decide when it's critical to make a vet visit, I am also assuming that digital would be the best. If anyone out there has any information or advice I would really appreciate hearing it.
{As i live out of major centers I have only been able to search them over the net}

I currently use a postal scale for my under 2400 gram reptiles. It is a Pelouse model SP5 it is a digital scale I bout at a Office Depot. It does have the TARE feature, which allows me to zero in with a bowl on it. It was only about $25. Being a postal scale it will weigh to just 1 gram.

As far as something to weigh larger boas I do not have a scale for them, maybe someone can help you out here. I either bag my snakes and use a scale at the local PetsMart which has a scale for dogs. Or I weigh myself and then weigh myself with the snake.

I strip down to me skivies, I weigh myself, than pick up my boa and weigh us together. simple math does the rest.
This works for my 6 yr old albino just fine for me. It's how i weighed my dogs in the past also. (the ones I could lift anyway. LOL)

For small ones, I borrow my friends food scale from next door with a tare feature. (too cheap to by my own LOL) I think it tops at a kilo, but only in 2 gram incraments.

Ciao,
Rick

Uh...can I ask why you strip down to your undies?? Or maybe I don't wanna know.....

:rofl: ;)

I use a scale similar to this one http://www.exoticlizards.com/digital-scales.html

That's actually a little nicer than mine since mine is a few years old now.
I actually use two scales, I have one that tops out at 6Kg in 1g increments and one that tops out at 250g in 0.1g increments.
A good scale is invaluable.

Although these scales have a 7Kg may weight, you'd really have a hard time getting a large snake on them in a container. The box will block the readout. I don't bother weighing my adutl boas though so it doesn't matter. I mainly weigh my young snakes and tortoises to track growth and my adult female balls to determine breeding condition.
These are a very good scale at a good price. I bought my 250g scale from Scales at the link I posted. Great folks to work with.

Thank you for all your assistance to all who posted! It's kinda funny as the link Clay included in his post was the exact same scale I was considering just on a different site lol. I have ordered this scale through a store near me, as well as a new bathroom digital scale (needed a new one anyway) This should about have my worries taken care of. Thank you all again. Oh! P.S. COULD WE TRY TO STAY DRESSED FOR OUR NEXT INTERACTION TY. LOL, Mikey

Hey now, I left my skivies on. That's dressed. (sort of) HA HA :dgrin:

This IS being covered...kinda. If you are weighing yourself to know how much you weigh as well as the snake it does make sense.

I don't bother to weigh myself other than for the number to subtract, so I am fully dressed to protect from bites. I have a kitchen scale that weighs grams and pounds up to 7 pounds. For anything larger I do the bathroom scale weight myself and myself and the snake. It's been pretty accurate so far as compared to the vets scales.

Get that....you CAN weigh snakes with clothes on.

Just in case any of you are taking me seriously, I wear clothes almost all the time. :raspberry
However, it's hot in the summer, so I seldom wear more than shorts. :)

Rick,

I really don't think anyone is going to be offended by your clothing (or lack thereof) on this forum. LOL

You are funny!
