    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Screwing around with this platform

Just a warning that I have been trying to spend some time learning this new platform that I have had set on autopilot since the install. So it is quite possible that things might get a little bit squirrely as I try to figure out some things. If something changes that seems to be less than what it used to be, shout out and let me know. This has a very steep learning curve, and many things are not as intuitive as I would like. Which means the only way I can get even close to figuring it out is by trying it to just see what happens. Hopefully I won't lock myself out of the site permanently in the process. I am sure there is probably a way here to do just that. And maybe all of you along with me.....

The issues we were talking about are back to normal for the moderators. Of note, we no longer have access to our forum section, though.

Yeah, the admin section here is non-intuitive, to say the least. Permissions are having me scratching my head trying to figure out what the heck they are really doing. The latest thing I tried was to set up one of my test logins as a Super Moderator, and just as you mentioned, I had the moderator function available (I think) but did not have access to the moderator section. You would think having that section enabled for the member group Super Moderators would do that, wouldn't you? But apparently there is some other permission necessary that I just haven't unraveled yet.

I guess this just might be one reason that message/forum board systems like that have fallen to the wayside. The developers are putting so many bells and whistles in them to make them feature rich that they made a tangled mess of it. For instance, there is a permission option for the member groups called "NEVER" which pre-empts and other conflicting setting anywhere else on the admin pages. You would think that would be useful, right? Well the instruction manual strongly suggests NOT using it. Normally that means something along the line of "results will be unpredictable" if you do. Thanks bunches.... So apparently "YES" and "NO" really means "MAYBE" and "NEVER" means flipping a coin.

Of course, maybe I have had a stroke and just don't realize it. Everything else seems to be normal to me, but I thought I had a pretty good handle on how message board systems work. Now I am looking at the bottom line of the finances of this site and thinking "GO AHEAD. MAKE MY DAY!"

Well, I got my test login to appear to be acting like a Super Moderator. Even has access to the Moderator's Section. Can you take a look Nick to see if it seems to be working now?

I still don't have a firm grasp on how the hierarchy for the permissions works yet. Apparently the setting of "inherit" just does not work the way I think it should work. Best I can tell, it doesn't allow anything to be inherited from either a parent forum or category, nor from any user group accessing it. So I am just not sure what is remaining that would make sense to be inherited into a forum for permissions.

Crap. Playing around with this stuff got my cookie(s) corrupted in my browser requiring me to zap the Chrome cookies from the last 15 minutes. Guess I offended it trying to figure out what the hell sort of rules it runs under.
