In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Some weird ad keeps popping up

Just been to a couple of threads and this weird ad for an Indian matrimonial agency pops up as though it was part of the thread. Maybe it's me, but it seems like it's implying you have to register to be a Fauna member. I think it's a hijack (- unless you have found a new way to raise $$ for the BOI support....:D )

See example at:

http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158423

I don't see anything out of the ordinary there. :shrug01: Maybe you've picked up some spyware somewhere. The only ad I see is the google banner ad just above the thread, and the usual ones to the side.

I've just checked both threads I saw this on and it's gone now... If I see it again I'll keep an image and post it here.

It was an ad the same size and colour as a post which appeared at the bottom of the page as if it were a post, for an Indian matrimonial service, with a picture of an Indian woman's face. The text said something to the effect that Fauna is a site dedicated to reptile hobbyists and to register here, with an active button to click.

I'm sure I wasn't dreaming it....

Try logging out of FC and then see if it shows up. Might be something my programmer set up for unregistered visitors to see.

You're right...

Yes, I just did that and you are right, if I follow a link without logging in it happens again. Except today it is a fat chick telling me to cut down my belly fat.

Again it seems to imply that you register for Fauna by clicking the link

Let's see if I can post an image...

Maybe I have this ass backwards

Now I've seen this twice with two different ads I realise maybe it is genuine and that you are using ads to encourage new visitors to register for Fauna.

In that case, I'd suggest changing the wording somehow: the close association with the ad makes an ultra-paranoid user like myself think that I'm going to get sent to the ad's site (and maybe sign myself up for spam) if I click the link.

Sorry if I was time wasting.

Actually, I had nothing to do with the text he used there. :shrug01:

Fat AND on the shelf apparantly...

The wording was the same attached to 2 ads so far; one for a matrimonial agency and one for getting rid of belly fat.

Now I've concentrated on this (more than I would have ever expected!), it's fairly apparent that it's two separate things - an ad and an unrelated sign-up button for Fauna, but on first (speedy) glance it's confusing.

If you are keeping this feature I'd suggest a more defined separation between ad and Fauna sign-up. Of course this may be just my take on this - being overweight and desperately single can do that to a girl....

The ads you are describing sound to me like they are Google ads. They are supposed to be context sensitive, but I swear sometimes I don't know where they get the keywords from. I'm looking at one right now that is for some sort of phone service, so I guess that means the spammers are just winning the war.....
