In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Steven Baker of SC Bad News!!! HELP

Hey Steve!!! Come on Buddy!!! Just pay up. A man is only as good as his word. 5+ years to pay a debt. Come on Buddy!!! I know you better then this. If you aint got money then send them all turtles. Thats what I'd do. Just send $100 a month. thats really easy.

Well Thats good to hear. Hell we've always been buddies. I aint got nothing bad to say about you. But I know how it is to owe somebody a large sum of money and then something happens and you think, well Ill just pay em a lil later, and before you know it a year has passed. Bills pile up and the hole gets deeper. It happens to alot of people but some people are just too much full of pride to admit it. I know one thing about you. Youve never hid what youve done in the past and youve always been up front and that goes a long way. Hell nobody is perfect. If anybody wants to talk about a REAL SHIT HEAD then lets talk about NATHAN HORTON!!!!!! I cant wait to punch his little inbred looking face in one day.

Games

I did agree that was fair, even though fair would of been getting paid 7 years ago when he received $800 in animals from me. That was 6 days ago and of course nothing, the :censored: games go on.

A bullet to the head would save alot of taxpayer dollars on this one!

And its comments like this that make it said. I am sure to you maybe not a big deal to put a bullet in his head but as the story said, he had a spouse and 3 younger kids. Pretty sure they he was trying to support them, maybe doing stuff illegal but still trying to take care of his family

With a house full of roaches and animal crap?? Guess thats your way of "taking care" of a family, not mine. Right back at ya!

The authorities would have seized computers and business records in the raid to find out who purchased the restricted animals. So, I would urge folks who were ripped off to call the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office to find out if the state is prosecuting as well as the feds. Reason being, if enough people complain the state could also add schemes to defraud to the list of charges; the aggregate amounts that trigger increased penalties are $20k and $50k per 817.034 Florida Communications Fraud Act.

The reason I suggest this is that there was a gun manufacturer down in FL a few years back named Jonathan Cienter who was pulling the same sort of activity for years - taking money, not delivering product, stringing customers along, refusing to give refunds, etc. Eventually the state did go after him after enough folks complained. The real reason he wasn't prosecuted is he issued enough refunds to folks who demanded them that he could eventually show that the "backorders" constituted less than 1% of his business. You can read more about it at http://news.brevardtimes.com/2011/11/brevard-county-sheriffs-office-raids_04.html - there are also links to the affidavits for his arrest warrant there.

That said, the guy in this thread probably doesn't have enough cash available to pay back folks he's ripped off over the years, but on the outside chance he does it's worth a phone call or two. Also, since the authorities will have his business records they can look for others who were ripped off; in cases like this they tend to pile on the charges to give themselves more leverage when the criminal wants to plea out.

Same article has also been posted to other BOI threads with the people mentioned in it of questionable repute.
ALL buyers should read and be very wary......

Just because this thread covers over a decade (wow, it is a record?) and links do go away, here is the text of the story from The Post and Courier 20 June 2018

Holly Hill man caught smuggling up to $400,000 in turtles from Hong Kong

"For the second time in less than five years, Holly Hill resident Steven Verren Baker was in front of a federal judge after being caught smuggling protected turtles.

"Baker, 38, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of conspiracy to smuggle wildlife after packages containing the turtles were intercepted in transit between the U.S. and China, according to an announcement by the U.S. Attorney's Office on Wednesday.

"Court documents revealed an elaborate scheme that had the potential to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for the perpetrators.

"The smuggling took place between January and June 2016 and utilized fake names and return addresses to evade detection, according to court documents. Shipments were set up through Facebook messages.

"Turtles were placed in boxes labeled "snacks" and shipped from Hong Kong, the documents stated. The reptiles were packaged in socks and items like pieces of candy and noodles were placed around them in an effort to conceal them in transit to South Carolina and other parts of the United States.

"The approximate value of the smuggled turtles is between $117,200 and $409,250, depending on the market," documents state.

"While 46 turtles were intercepted by authorities, investigators believe more were shipped that evaded detection, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Winston David Holliday Jr.

"The indictment supports hundreds," Holliday said.

"Investigators believe U.S. collectors were paying for turtles considered to be exotic from China, while Chinese customers were collecting American turtles in some cases, and consuming them — either as food or for medicinal purposes, the prosecutor said.

"The international conspiracy wasn't the first time Baker found himself in trouble for smuggling wildlife.

"In 2014, he pleaded guilty to illegally trafficking wild turtles taken from South Carolina's interior and attempting to sell them to a buyer in Florida. He also pleaded to being a felon in possession of guns and ammunition. A search of his residence in conjunction with the turtle probe revealed a wide assortment of guns and firearms.

"Baker received three years probation for the turtle-related charge on Sept. 23, 2015, court documents stated.

"Less than four months later, the Holly Hill man had set up the international turtle-smuggling conspiracy.

"Baker will be sentenced on his current charge at a later date. He faces a maximum of five years in prison and a potential fine of $250,000.

"Cases against Baker's five named codefendants are pending, Holliday said. "

And from the second posted link, the names of five other men who were arrested as being involved with Steven Baker. Just a few to put on the "doubtful" list:

Turtle trading gang

"Some suspects from New York and China were involved, as were five other men with S.C. connections. All are accused of working with Baker. Those with South Carolina ties have pleaded not guilty to a variety of illegal wildlife charges and are awaiting trial later this year in Columbia. Those men are:

"Joseph Logan Brooks, a Baker business associate accused of receiving rare turtles at a house he and Baker claimed as their address in rural Orangeburg County

"William and Matthew Fischer, a father and son accused of receiving packages from Hong Kong at addresses in Harleyville. Money also went into a family bank account, according to charges against them.

"Matthew H. Kail, a Florida man accused of trapping protected turtles from a N.C. wildlife refuge

"William Gangemi, a New Jersey man accused of participating in the illicit wildlife trading business"
