    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Soo, I'm thinking about getting back into the hobby. :rolleyes: There's an adult pair about 10 hours away we could go grab on this 3 day weekend...
The husband says go for it but it's a lot of money to put down when starting at 0 and we've got our first baby on the way...

Anyway, does anyone have thoughts on using straw for bedding? Or other suggestions for a cheap loose substrate? I used to use aspen but the place I got it from seems to be out of business.

This straw is "all natural", no herbicides or pesticides, and safe for pets and children. The "tack" added to it is guar gum. This doesn't seem necessary but it's cheaper with it than without it.

Also, what's a good place to buy rodents that aren't lab animals? I used to buy from Loxahatchee Hatchery (looks like it's Perfect Prey now?) and I may just go with them again unless there are better suggestions.

I miss all of the boas I had! I wish I could start right up with the same ones again haha :D

Thanks!

I looked at that one too but it has an herbicide and sometimes pesticides.

Does it say that on the bag? I can't see the fine print. I'm looking for a more economical bedding for my rabbits, Guinea pigs, degus, and mice. I'm using aspen now, but I go through quite a bit. :(

Thanks,

Kathy

Newspaper would be much better than straw. Straw can mold pretty easily and have all kinds of critters in it. I always used either aspen or newspaper and either one did great.
