Taiwan Leopard Snake. Oligodon formosanus

Anyone have or had these in your collection. If so please let me know how they do in captivity.

Craig, that's a great looking snake. How long have you had him/her?
I don't keep them but searched, somewhat and can't find many that do. At least in the US.

Hi Dennis, I've had it for about 8 months. I can't find much info. it eats eggs, birds and reptiles eggs. One book said they eat geckos.
I've tried to ween it on to pinkies with no luck.
I have no idea what sex it is, but before the end of summer. I should find a few more, and try to compair.

I found several overseas care sheets, but it’s very hard to decipher them. I will keep searching for more information on them. So what has been its primary diet while in your care?

Its eating finch eggs, nothing else.

I'm happy to report, Its eating small mice.Hell's bells the herp guy at Taipei zoo laughed at me, when I said I was trying to ween it on to mice.
Dennis I'm comming across lots of snakes, here in Taiwan. I'm from SA so they're mostly new to me.
I have the best local snake book available and the info is basic and st etchey.
There is a long list of snakes I'm permit id to keep. and 12 spices from the list, That I like and want to keep and try to breed.
8 spices of rat snake, Mock Viper, False Viper, Red banded snake and the Taiwan leopard snake. I've got a few hots but phasing them out.
If you or anyone is intrested. I'll list 12 species and their lattin names.

How many have you collected?

I've only got 2 so far the Leopard snake, and the king rat snake, I find snakes all the time. but not what I'm after. I find lots of Keel back snakes,Smooth green snakes,Spectacle cobra's, Bandid Kraits, Bamboo vipers, and Pointed scale pit vipers. I don't often go hunting for them. I ride a mountain bike on trails in the city, every morning and evening, weather permitting. I usually find them crossing the paths. I've caught a few big rat snakes, but they are just too wild to keep.
I also have a small collection of imported snakes.
I've lived in Taiwan for 7 years, but never kept any local snakes except for a few day, for relocation, I found one snake at a public swimming pool and one was found in my friends apartment.But other than that I just checked them out then released them.
But this summer I got a list of non protected snake, so if I find the ones I want it's for keeps.
In SA all the snakes are protected, I had permits for 6 pairs of common local species. Here I can keep 28 local species. I just wish they were easier to find Lol.

Have you taken any pictures of the ones you have encountered above? You could probably add a lot of information to the field collecting section.

I'm having trouble down sizing my pics. The computer I got, has all the functions in Chinese, I had a friend down size them but when I tryed to post most of my pic were still too big. Next time he comes over I'll ask him to show me again.

You could also use a free hosting service such as photobucket, and then you wouldn't have to worry about resizing.
