    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Hey folks,

Do you think housing a baby BP in a 30-40gallon tank will stress the little fella' out --- assuming I place in a few hides and some fake foliage for cover? Some people have suggested a smaller tank to begin with..what are your thoughts?

I know the most common suggestion is to house hatchlings in a small cage, and I use shoeboxes for my babies, but I honestly don't think a larger cage will bother the snake at all as long as there are a few hiding places. He'll just curl up in one of them and spend the majority of his time there not using the rest of the cage for the most part.
After all, in the wild they have the entire savannah as a habitat and that apparently doesn't bother them much.

How do you heat your shoebox to the right temps though?

If you use a shoebox with ball pythons make sure you drill plenty of holes for ventilation. High humidity may increase the susceptibility to blister disease. A "Cobra" heat mat under 1/4 of the shoe box should mainatin adequate temperature if the temperature in the room where it's kept is around 70 degrees. Make sure you leave an air space (1/4 inch) between the mat and the shoe box. Use a thermometer!

I keep my shoeboxes in racks and they are heated with 3" flexwatt heat tape on a thermostat.
Just to make sure we're on the same page, these are not the cardboard boxes tennis shoes come in, they are plastic storage boxes. You're proabaly already fully aware of that, btu you'd be surprised at the number of people who don't associate the term shoebox with anything but their new Reeboks.

Hehe..was just about to use shoebox my Docs came in :p There's no issue of the UTH melting the tubs? Lastly, do you just drill in a ton of holes in the lid, or all over the tub?

It will depend on how you are going to use the tub, with or without the lid. If you are going to use the tub with the lid you can drill the latter. If you are using the tub without the lid (in a drawer-like fashion) then you probably don't need the holes as there's enough ventilation left between the top of the tub and the upper shelf.

Without a lid..got to get your dimensions right there first time or bye bye snake! :) Thanks Dan, been a great help again!

Absolutley! You have to measure the height of the tub and the sides of the drawer very precisely, the tighter the better. That's why belly heat it's sometimes difficult to provide.

I put holes in the tubs anyway, extra ventilation doesn't hurt.
Don't drill them though, that's labor intensive and a little too much pressure on the drill and you will crack the tub. Go to WalMart and pick up a cheap soldering iron, they run about $7. Use it to melt the holes in the tub, it's neat and very easy with no chance of cracking the tub.

Housing baby balls in a rack is not like housing hatchling corns, the spacing of the shelves is not nearly as critical since they are fat little snakes anyway.
I use an 1/8th of an inch gap. The tub won't bind and the snake can't get out. Remember wood changes over time, it can swell or draw up. If you make the rack with too close a tolerance the tubs can start binding a few months later and a tub that sticks is real aggravating.
When assembling the rack use spacers to space the shelved. Sit the tub on a table and lay a straight edge across it. Measure from the straight edge to the table to get the exact tub height. Add 1/8" to that and cut two spacers that size to space the shelves with. If you try to use the tubs as spacers you'll wind up with some binding and just measuring the shelf spacing and screwing it together leaves a lot of room for error. The spacers make assembling the rack very quick and uniform.

Excellent..thanks folks..been a really helpful bunch!! So glad I joined this forum..been a fantastic resource!
