    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a Colombian B&W Tegu that is eating ok, but when it sheds all the skin doesn't fully come off, especially on the feet. I can't find any good care sheets out there, so can someone help? It's eating one fuzzy mouse a day. Should I be feeding it fruit and raw foods also? And am I feeding it too much? If someone would be kind enough to help with this, all of my problems would be solved. (The tegu is less than two years old)

Deffinately make sure you have a large wtaer bowl for it to sit in. Yes feed it fruit! At least half its diet should be fruit. Here is a good care sheet on Columbian Tegus:

Good luck, I hope this helps. Also make sure you do not feed him by hand, they are extemely aggressive(if you have not noticed) and may cause a whole lot of harm when he gets bigger.

The shedding problems are probably due mostly to inadequate humidity. If you can answer the following questions I can try to make some recommendations.
1. Describe the cage he's in...(be specific about the ventilation because too much will make maintaining humidity difficult)
2. What are you using for substrate and how deep is it?
3. What temps are you providing? Are you providing full spectrum lighting?
4. Is your tegu fed anything other than mice? Are you using any calcium or vitamin supplements?
5. Have you tried soaking your tegu or misting it's enclosure or hide?

Thank you so much! I have a 60 gallon tank right now for my tegu, but i'm going to get a larger enclosure. You probably saved my tegus life. I can't tell you how pleased I am with this. I realize that I rushed into tegu keeping way too fast. I'm going to spend quite a bit of time doing more research. Thanks again.

I hate to jump in and say this, but this care sheet is wrong!! Colombian tegus will not take fruit!! You will find out when you try to feed it. Argentine tegus do infact eat fruit, but not Colombians! Also I have another problem with this care sheet. It says to feed cat/dog food, this is not good advice.
They are high in ash as well as red dye #40, and are very poor for all reptiles. They are made for dogs/cats, not reptiles. It goes right back to the saying, you cannot believe everything you read!
I am a long time keeper, and just wanted you to know the truth. Your Colombian Tegu will do great on ground turkey(dusted) crickets, pinkies/mice, roaches, fish (as a treat) and scrambled eggs, Not raw! Also tegu/monitor bites. I hope this helps. Please do not feed dog/cat food, it will cause more harm than good. :)

Varnyard is definately right, I will second his post. Especially with the dog/cat food, most of it is high in fat, but most importantly like Varnyard stated it is NOT made for tegus. :)
