In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm really looking for a good medium to small python. I do not like the ball pythons but I realllllly LOVE Carpet Pythons. I cannot own a python over 6 feet but I love the coloration of the Carpets. What type of Carpet Python could be for me? I hear the Inland Carpet pythons max out at 6, but what is a Jaya carpet python?

Are these snakes rare in captivity and are they hard to come by? I also was looking into Childrens pythons but I love the coloration of the carpets. I would love more information on Carpet pythons as I love them to death! :D

All I need is one to fulfill my dream collection!

Irian Jaya CP's are not rare and they usually are a good price (not cheap though).
This is a good care sheet: http://www.repticzone.com/caresheets/39.html
The only bad thing is they can be a little nippy when young and you might need a couple years of excperience.
Children's and spotted pythons are a good choice.. they're small but you don't find them everywhere.

Thanks alot! Do you think you could link me to someone who sells them or a breeder or something? I love them!

Inlands are very dark and these are light, both so beautiful I love the black on their heads (looked it up on google)

Michelle since you were asking about Carpet pythons it's OK to use this forum or you could start another thread in the pythons forum.. Most of us consider them to be at least Semi Arboreal. I Keep IJs(WPs) Coastals,Diamonds a few Jungles and Coastal/Diamond crosses ETC ETC

As for Carpets your not likely to find any Inlands available in the US right now there are very very few in the country.. You can find babies of the big three for 100 bucks or so and the prices range up from there into the thousands for some of the Morphs IE Jags, Granites, Tigers ETC.

Carpets are not a bad python to start with and yes IJs AKA WPs tend to be the smallest of the Carpets you'll find available. Though most Coastals and Jungles you come across are not all that big and most males don't get much over 6 feet and many never get that size especially males. You can find Info and care sheets on any that you are interested in just by doing a search on line. Here's a site you'll find useful
http://74.220.207.106/~moreliap/forums/index.php
I think you'll find more info on Carpets and Morelia in general than on any other site.. Hey if you have any other questions ask away. Randy

Thanks Randy,

I'll be using that site to its fullest. Also, you made me very happy because Jungle Carpets are the Pythons of my dreams and now seem obtainable.

Your welcome Michelle, if you check around I'm sure you can find a line of Jungles that will fit your size requirements. Post some pictures and info here when you find one.. Randy

Hi Michelle,

If you are only going to have one snake I say go with a jungle carpet for two reasons.
1) Size-wise they are right in the middle range of carpet pythons....bigger than Irian Jayas and smaller than coastals. IMO they are a perfect sized python, just big enough to be impressive, but small enough to be easily managable.

2)Jungles are beautiful!! It is hard to beat the "OoooHH" factor of a nice black and yellow jungle. Even people who know nothing about snakes are awed by the sight of a nice trophy jungle. You'll pay more for the nicer ones, but it is worth it!!

You might want to check out the NARBC show in Tinley Park.

This is a HUGE (look at the vendor list) reptile show that is held annually in the Chicago area.

Haha thanks!! Yeah I've been trying to find good care sheets but just haven't come across one yet. I'm def going to NARBC show and if I can convince my parents to go I'll probably pick up a baby carpet! Gosh yes I love Jungle Carpets and I'll probably break and get one!
:D

Haha I'm not sure what you mean by one snake as I have two different snakes and one more is coming, but I'm looking for a wonderful python to compleate my collection!

In your opening post you stated that "All I need is one to fulfill my dream collection!".........I guess that gave me the impression that for now you would be limited to just one carpet python. No worries.
Keeping carpets is an addicting hobby!

As far as caresheets goes, Anthony Caponetto provides one on his website that is pretty good.

Going to Tinely Park in October is an awsome way to compare animals and will give you a great selection to choose from, plus you get to meet and speak to breeders. I'll def be shopping there too :D......have fun!

Good Luck,
Cha~

Check out eereptiles.com/austrailian_pythons.htm
I was looking there for a smaller python also and found some really cool looking Capeyork spotted pythons and regular spotted pythons. Thay stay small and really are pretty passive. They are a great choice and to me they are a nice step up from a ball python.

Check out Morelia Community, it's dedicated to carpets and others in the genus. They have some great care sheets and a lot of info on carpets.

For breeders I recommend Blake @ Python Central and Nick @ Inland Reptiles. Both have helped when I was in the market for a python. I ended up with Bredli because of their calmer and curious personality compared to the Jungles. In the end I bought mine from Blake because Nick didn't have any in stock and Blake was nice enough to hand select one that was the calmest in the bunch.
