. . . Dan Lubinsky is a man that many of us personally like. He always had good pictures - is very genial - positive and helpful.

Did he screw up? Yep, no doubt. But the piling on that is taking place is appalling. Where are all his friends? Someone screws up - even badly - does that mean that we all just abandon him to the cyber-vultures who pick over his carcass? We don't have to make excuses, but to continue to let him swing in the wind with our silence tells me a lot about the character of this forum community - and it makes me sad.

I've seen it too many times in the herp community - and it's really really disappointing. It's like disemboweling someone who screws up is a sport around here. And with a guy like Dan Lubinsky - who we all know is a great guy - it's even more tragic. Maybe I am too much of a "hippie" - as one character described me as - but you have to agree - there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of loyalty to friends. Are we only friends when we are perfect?

Dan Lubinksy isn't some scammer herp trash we see from time to time. Dan Lubinsky is a good guy - who seems to made a bad judgment. I'm sure that he would love to take his actions back. That's just my assumption, though. Heck, I don't even know him outside of this forum and KS. I don't think we've ever exchanged an email. But I forgive him and make a public statement right here that I still like him.

I've probably burned my last bridge here and that makes me sad. But I'm sick to death of the vultures and even more disappointed by the silence of Mr. Lubinsky's gecko community. I'm not mad - just disappointed.

Good Friday is coming. I'm glad that guy died for even bad guys like me . . .

I really have no problems with lubinsky, agree what happened was wrong. My major concern is that if dan poe is claiming the snow came infected, he's placing the blame on dan L who has not bothered to answer anything about it.

I see two people that should be mad about this whole thing.
Alex for having lubunsky decive him in this.
Lubinksy mad at poe for getting him dragged into all of this, And getting the blame from poe for the amoebe infection.


Poe should be only mad at himself for flapping those jaws of his. Like the saying goes "loose lips, sinks ships", This saying could never have been so true. How stupid can someone be to think that if he posted about having a genetic snow in his possesion, he would not get caught???

Monte, your notice of the deafening silence is a good one. This is something that I too have addressed.

lubinski does seem, from what I've read, to have made a serious mistake and then made some other mistakes to cover it up. Though a few have mentioned that he is/was a good guy, when one is "outed" as being a liar and sneaking around behind someones back, well, even folks you thought were your friends will hold back their support to distance themselves and keep from getting caught up in the mess.

I suspect that he may be getting some support privately as that has been done in the past when others have entered the evisceration zone. I don't know him well enough to decide whether or not he's really a good guy, but I do know that his behavior in this particular instance has definately shaded him a dark grey.

I suppose some of it, the silence, really is just people not wanting to be associated with a wounded animal, lubinski, and some of the disembowelling is more akin to a feeding frenzy one would expect to see in shark infested waters more than a gecko breeding ground.

This scenario has played out in the past and will doubtlessly be repeated in the future. It is rather telling about how people really think though and is not really too surprising.

Given time I think lubinski can recover as long as he is NOT caught redhanded again as he seems to have been here. It's too hot right now for most to come forward, or such is my personal opinion, and support him and the heat IS of his own making.

I do agree with you though, the silence has been conspicuous.

Monte, here is a post of mine from 8/31/04.

Dan Lubinsky (Dan The Fireman) is great guy to deal with.
I contacted Dan out of the blue about some animals that he posted pictures of. I did not reply to an ad, I just admired his animals and wanted to know if he might have anything for sale. I was looking for something pretty specific and he was very accommodating. He stated that if I were to stay in touch he had just the animal I was looking for but wanted to let it get established before shipping(it was a very recent hatchling). We stayed in contact for a couple of months via email. Sending pictures of our animals back and forth. We decided that a trade was in order. After we decide what animals were to be exchanged Dan volunteered to ship first and let me look over the animals. He said to take my time and could ship mine when I was satisfied. I thought this was a huge gesture. Keep in mind I contacted him and out of nowhere at that. He didn't know me at all. I recieved the animals today and they are even better in person. I will be shipping mine out to him tommorrow and can only hope that he is as happy with my animals as I am with his.

I will stand by this quote. The dealings that I have had with Dan Lubinsky have been good. This is a different situation though. I can not attest to either of the Dans actions in this deal. That is why I choose to remain silent. Nothing that has transpired in this deal was done to either of them. They are both adults and responsible for their own actions.

But there is a reason for the silence. In the other thread about this topic, I specifically stated that this sort of topic material is ONLY to be posted and discussed within the BOI. The silence is caused by most people understanding my request and complying. This is an apparent attempt to resurrect that discussion here, which I specifically DO NOT want to happen. This particular forum is the Leopard Gecko Discussion Forum. So please talk about leopard geckos while you are in this forum. If you want to discuss ethical or business aspects of breeders or sellers of leopard geckos, then THAT goes into the BOI. Just as when someone wants to discuss selling their leopard geckos, that is restricted to the classifieds section.
