    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.
  • Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

This is some of the stuff that brings the hobby down....

Ya think Justyn???? LOL..... Maybe I get alittle too pissed when I see stuff like this..... It just gets to me for some reason....

yep, this is part of life, unfortunatly there will always be people like this, the best way to deal with them is to give them as much info you possibly could, this way, not only are you giving the owner the correct answers, but you are also helping the gecko

seems like almost every post on KS now are questions you can easily have answered by reading a caresheet, there was one post a while back with someone asking "my leos are sleeping on top of eachother, should i bring them to the vet", i didnt even want to post to that, luckily others posted to it and told him the right things, i would suggest not even going there anymore, enjoy the better things in life, you've got awesome hatchlings now, and a newborn baby, spend your time with them, rather than pushing yourself to an early heartattack from reading the crap there

just dont even sweat them bro, they will eather find out the hard way, or people will tell them to go read an damn caresheet.

an uneducated new hobbyist asking a question you feel is silly is brining the hobby down? May seem funny to one of us, but everyone starts somewhere.......

give them the information they desire, and point them in the right direction.

Certainly beats attacking them for their naive inquiries....... :D

You have got to be kidding me.Geez i can't see for s**t and I can tell when they are shedding..Common sense tells ya if it grows it sheds...but then I guess some people have no common sense.

Chris, i agree, but to a point, he claims 10 years worth of experience with herps, so apparently he is no newcomer, and he claims to have had the albino for a year..seems a bit fishy to me, how do you not notice a shed in all that time?

Thats what I am talkin about Dan.....

Chris, I would never rag on a newbie for asking a legit question..... But dont you think not knowing about wether or not albinos shed is a bit on the moronic side being that the person claims to be keeping leos for ten years and should have been asked/answered way before getting the animal not a year and a half later???? That is bringing the hobby down..... Buying animals without knowing the basics...... Its not the question its self that is bringing the hobby down......

I agree, it may be a prank or joke, or it may be an individual simply lying about experience. Who knows, it could be a mentally challenged child for all we know, but its better to educate than scare away. Of course in some situations you just can't help yourself, I'm no angel when it comes to this. But I guess yuo just have to use your best judgement. Help at first, and then continue with caution I guess :p

I agree with Chris 100%. I actually think that being rude and disrespectful to newbies brings the hobby down more than someone asking a question on a forum.

Shame on y'all! :-(

i agree, i think helping newbies out with questions does alot of good

it would be much different if this person was a newbie, since he claims 10 years of keeping herps, and keeping the albino leo for a year, hey, it could be false info, but he's the one who stated it, so who knows

helping newbies out is great to a degree, thers are some newbies out there who are great, and are like sponges, they soak up every last bit of into possible, then there are ones who are ignorant and want to beleive that their way is right and dont want to listen to anything anyone has to say, there is a limit to how much one person can take, i agree that it should be handled in a mature, non violent way, but there are some that need to be yelled at just to set them straight

ok I understand what you guys are saying but a morph doesnt shed any less frequent than a regular. Thats common sense. Yeah and if the person has had if for a year and a half they should know by now. So they are just either a.) lying about their experiance or b.) dense in the head
so whatever peopel will always be stupid

Perhaps he has kept herps for ten years, or perhaps not. Doesn't really matter, the person was asking a question, and he was not asking it in a rude way at all.

I don't beleive the person in question deserved being "yelled at". There are better ways to communicate with someone than that. Just my opinion, later :bolt01:

again, i agree, i dont feel he was "yelled at" rather than just called out. psh, i'm no angel, i have gotten a bit ticked off as some of the questions people post there, to me it seems like they by the animal befor doing any research, if everyone kept the proper attitude there, there would be no problems at all, not that there were any problems, its sad to see, not only for the leos, but for the owners, if the leo dies, the owner has to experience that, and if you are new to keeping them, or if you have been keeping them for 25 years plus, it hurts, and the leo gets housed improperly, is fed the wrong food, is not given the correct supplements, is given no heat, or improper heat, suffers, and then dies, hopefully, the new owner will go back to the forum to ask for help, and/or right the wrongs that person made, and hopefully the people on the forum would respect that the owner takes full responsibility and they help out with any questions they could answer, thats how i think every puplic forum should be, but unfortunatly i cannot see that ever happening, people have different opinions about things, and sooner of later they will clash

i hope you can see my point here kelli, i am in no way trying to argue with you, and i am sorry if it looks that way :\

Thats the first time Ive been on the KS forum in over a year maybe 2, I forget its there really.

At least the person got an answer, I agree with Dan, Chris and Kelly and others, there is no reason to jump on a person for asking a question, what may be a stipud question to one person may not be to the one asking. It is odd that they had the leo for a year and never noticed a shed but who's to say that is true.

Id rather see a "stupid" question being asked than an owner to afraid to ask stupid questions.

Just me 02 cents

Yeah, good points I guess but all I am trying to say is that being rude and condescending gets us nowhere. You will not get very far in this business being that way. Well, in most cases LOL.

i hope you can see my point here kelli, i am in no way trying to argue with you, and i am sorry if it looks that way :\

Dan, I am an adult. I do my best not to argue with people, I discuss things. Well, I do argue sometimes with my teenage son, but that's an exception! :hehe:

Oh, and also Dan, I know you are not arguing with me, just discussing. :)

I think the attacks on newbies and just people that are ignorant are some of what brings this hobby down. I dont know, nor care how many years of experience he claims to have. Obviously its reflected in that question that he has to be a newbie. I notice alot of people track back their keeping to when they were a kid and start counting from there....

Ignorance and reptiles seem to go hand and hand anymore. I seen someones caresheet for leopard geckos that advised, that you do not expose them to uvb or sunlight or you would make them blind.. Sadder part was, that was the majority belief on that forum as well...

I dont know..... Its nice to help out newbies..... But, these questions I have seen lately, are basic info that should be aquired BEFORE the reptile is..... That is what is so bad about the question..... If the same question was asked by someone that was looking to get a leo it would be a different story..... Then it would be a legit question..... But it is a rediculous question for someone that has had this leo in their care for over a year...... Do you understand my point..... The thing that is even scarier is that this person claims to be keeping giant dangerous constrictors...... These are some things that are destroying this hobby..... People keeping animals they have no knowledge about...... With all these reptile bans going around, I will not be suprized if leos make the ban list in another few years.....

The first two things anyone learns about reptiles is that.....

1) They are cold blooded....
2) All reptiles shed their skin....

How can someone keep reptiles and not know the most basic of reptilian info???? Thats what is wrong with this hobby......

Shame on people who buy animals without finding out the basics of keeping them first.....

Not shame on me for calling someone out........

Mike, it has been proven that UV light can damage nocturnal animals eyes.... It just has not been proven yet either way in leos......
