In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello,
I am new to the site.

Okay, I had my nine year old beardie to pass away, a couple of years ago. I loved his personality, and would like another one (which is why I joined). I was hoping to buy from a breeder this time, thought it'd be cheaper...which its seems to be more...

I have always known there were different colors. Mine was just the normal color with a little bit of yellow by the ears. I also know that the prettier/more exotic colors cost more.

I did NOT know that there were leather backs or silk backs....I just thought the roughness was it..

So can someone direct me to a site that explains more on colors, and texture/types of skin?

I believe, I just want one with little to no color (a normal), but I should probably should read up and make sure that's what I want.

Thanks!

And concerning color... color lineages are just variations of the said color.. A red dragon is a red dragon, regardless.. but the thing that makes a Blood Red different than, say, a Cawley red, is the dragons from which the lines were originally started. So, that means "line breeding" isn't always a very good idea, unless the lines have been crossed out with many other red lineages. For example, breeding a Blood to a Blood.. I personally wouldn't do that. Now if it was a HypoRed/Ogg/Blood crossed to a Chris Allen Red/Blood/Dachiu red, then that would be fine because the Blood lineages are crossed with others.

I hope I explained that right.. if someone more knowledgeable comes along maybe they can add more info or advice, or maybe correct something that I've gotten wrong.

:thumbsup:If you are truly looking for a pet, something you aren't planning on breeding, then its just going to be about finding a breeder that is trustworthy. there are plenty of beautiful healthy dragons in the classifieds. i would start by finding one in the price range you are looking for, then start building a dialogue via private messages or email, i would suggest calling them too. check the boi's to see if there are any hookey business practices going on with the breeder you have in mind.
If you shoot me a pm i'd be glad to let you know who i've bought from and got great dragons from. i can tell you that silk backs require alot of extra care, leatherbacks are the same care wise as the "normal" beardies.
especially now during the height of the breeding season you shouldn't have any trouble finding a healthy , colorful, even leatherback if ya want for around or under 100 bucks.
just do you best to find out who you are buying from first.

Bliss:Thank you so much for the link and trying to explain. it did make sence. I have taken a few classes in genetics, and basic. more complicated genetics I do understand...so the link will be very helpful.

Papa Wyrm: You will most likely be getting a pm or e-mail in few days from me. I would love to know, who you recommended...A breeder that knows what their saying and doing.

Thank you both for the replies!
