In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have been doing alot of research on ultrasounds the last couple of months and want to get one. I have ruled out the cheap, crappy chinese imports and I am looking at a couple of very nice high end portable units. These units come with a pretty high price tag but I may be able to get a ROI in a couple of seasons from my collection. I should point out that I have terrible fingers and no skills with palpating.

Since these units will greatly exceed the 3k budget I set aside, I wondered if there would potentialy be a market to provide ultrasound services to other hobbyists for a small fee to help offset the costs of the equipment.

I would appreciate your thoughts/feedback on the following questions:

Would you consider using an altrasound service on your collection?

How much would you be willing to pay for that service?

If you would use the service, what features (pictures, video, print out of follicle size and number, etc.) would you like out of it?

Does anyone know of someone else that may be doing this now?

I look forward to any feedback on this topic.

Thanks,
Craig

That sounds like a great idea. If we weren't so far apart, I'd be willing to pay you for the service. And that would be an awesome way for you (on anyone else buying the equipment) to offset the cost.

Someone else on here was just talking about taking their snakes to get an ultrasound. I want to say it was "Edens Pets"??

Matt,
Thanks for the feedback. If you would consider it, what fee would you think about paying and how many females would you scan and for how many months?

Would you want to remeasure size if the follicle was 10mm or more? or follow up at all during the season?

Just trying to get a feel for what people would spend and how they would use the service.

Hey Craig, I am going later this week to have some of my stuff ultrasounded. I am paying 5 bucks per snake which I think is a great deal, but at that price Im sure they get a lot of people to do it and make some quick cash off it.

Honestly, I'm not sure about the specifics. If it was going to allow me to KNOW when my females were ready to breed, and when they were gravid, I'd consider going more than once in a season, although those thoughts make me wonder how the traveling would effect my females that I'm wanting to breed.

If it were MY system, I'd probably wear it out the first year, using it on all of my females every week (LOL...that MIGHT be an exaggeration!). But since this has never been an option for me, I can't give you honest/real answers to the price, frequency, or exactly what I want out of it. If it were affordable, I'd probably go with as much info as it would provide, and on ALL of my females that I plan on breeding in that season.

 I would have to scan 600 snakes to recoop the additional cost that way. Let me know the details when you get it done please.

I understand what you mean. The unit I am considering is a portable for house calls. I wouldn't want to transport snakes around either. Although with time and gas it would have to be higher priced.

House calls would make it MUCH more attractive, and valuable!!

Steve,
I am looking at a factory refurbished Sonosite 180 plus and a logiq book laptop. I am working through some people to find what options are solid long term.

IDK i would say like 30-50 a snake for me just cause i would be so excited and it would be well worth it to me to know when was the best time for breeding Etc!

I think the members that got it for 5-10 a snake just got an AWESOME deal. But i am pretty sure u would make ur money back really quick. 600 snake would be quick if u charged really low of a price because more people would want it. But then of course u would have to calculate gas/travel cost into the price.

I had mine ultrasounded about a week ago. Well worth the cost. ( same people

Thanks for the feedback, can you tell me what all was involved and how they operate?

Cool, let us know what you end up with, one day I may get a unit I'm just not sure which model.

I will let you know Steve, thanks.

Thanks, your a big spender, I would only have to scan 100 that way:D Personally, I think it would have to be tiered based on number of snakes scanned in the visit with a trip charge added. I think $15 is a good number up to 10, $10 up to 20 and so on. Would the average hobbyist spend up to $250 to have 10 girls scanned in their home? I don't know, but would like to find out.

Shows are another possibility for those that allow people to bring them in and can be a cheaper flat rate.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

Ha nope not a big spender just it would be worth it too me. But its totally up to u. Plus it would also depend on how far u were willing to travel.

Cause i would expect it to be pretty expensive to travel out here to CA.
But we r just talking as a "what-if"

Thanks for the suggestion, I've looked at ebay a few times. Most are cart units that you don't know if they even work and usually have no warranty on them. If it doesn't have the right transducer with it can be very expensive to acquire. The cart units can be heavy and expensive to ship, plus finding the space to store them in the house is tight for me. With a "powers on" "as is" listing, I'll have to pass. When you exclude the chinese stuff and the ultra high end stuff, there's not very much left to consider.
