In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi,

Today I went to a local nursery looking for some vermiculite, but they said that they don't carry it anymore because it has espestos in it. Is this true? I have been using vermiculite for 2 years as a substrate in my geckos nesting hide. I also use it for incubating my eggs. Have I been giving my geckos cancer?

Thanks,

Matt

yes, just don't eat, breath or touch it.........you'll be fine

Acually Wall-Mart said that they are no-longer carrying it because it contained aspestos.
Just keep it damp!

here's a link

Asbestos contamination in vermiculite and vermiculite products has become a national concern to many private citizens throughout the country. A tremendous amount of information has been made available to the public via print, television/radio and the Internet.

I thought the EPA had resolved that issue!

To my knowledge, there was only one mine/quarry in Billings, Montana that produced vermiculite that was found to have traces of asbestos in it. A major public crisis resulted over it because they were finding asbestos in vermuiculite insulation that originated from there. That mine has been totally done away with by the EPA, and there is still a lot of outcry over the huge "cleanup" that was involved... reminiscent of the oil spill at Valdez. Vermiculite and asbestos are found in similar geological areas, but to date that is the ONLY place that the two were found in close proximity.

I think many of the retail stores have discontinued selling vermiculite due to the potential widespread public backlash from that incident. Although you can be sure that the EPA is right on top of the situation and will neverlet that happen again, I do wonder if the Government published everything in all of the disclosures. If you are really interested in this, you can go to the EPA's website.

What about spaghnum (spelling?) moss? That's what I'm using now.

Hi Matt
use the spaghnum moss for that trio. That is what I had in their laying box.

Excellent, thats what I have in there right now.

They look great, thanks. I also set their container up exactly as you had it.

Thanks,

Alberto

P.S. In a couple of years, hopefully I'll be buying some knob-tails off of you.

I will be very happy to sell you some knob tails in the future. In a few years I should have a very nice collection of those and maybe the price will have gone down a little (I hope not, lol).
Regards Alberto
PS: let me know how that trio does for you. You should get more eggs in about 2 weeks from now.
