In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Wanting to get into Balls, but wife will not allow.

Actually I haven't. I still don't have snakes. Her view is still if you bring a snake in the house I am moving out. They would even be in a room with the door locked and she never hours in it. Been trying to work on the Kenyan sand boas because they are small. Nothing worked yet. Also talked about winning one in a giveaway and that wouldn't be considered buying one. I'd have to take one in a giveaway. RIGHT.

Goodness. Well pardon me then, buddy. By all means, carry on. Have you ever thought about garters, maybe? They have the whole social stigma of being completely harmless in a lot of circles. It's not the species sort you want ultimately, but you could maybe wean her onto garters and work from there.

Oh, I totally fell for the ressurected thread thing. xD Sorry to pick at old wounds, dude.

Maybe try a different herp first? How does she feel about lizards? I know lots of people who love bearded dragons because of their personality. Perhaps her getting used to a scale-baby that's lots of fun will make her realize not all critters are evil. :)

Thank you guys and gals so much. I am not upset. I do appreciate all the help I can get. I have beardies, Leo's, and cresteds. She just has this stigma that she is scared to death of a snake. She will not even look at their pictures on my phone cause she thinks she will have nightmares.

It's kind of rediculous.

Either she is one tough mom or your daughter just wasn't convincing enough. Now that she is older (your daughter I mean) maybe you can try again. Using kids against one another is every parents right isn't it.

Seriously though dude, if she hasn't softened in two years I think you are SOL. It may seem ridiculous to us but they are called phobias for a reason. They are irrational.

If you are not afraid of flying frying pans you could always get a legless lizard and try to get off on a technicality. Technically it is not a snake, it just looks like one.

Somehow I don't see it working though. Best of luck.

Or, you could show her all the expensive morphs and let her know how much money you can make by breeding Ball pythons. Tell her she can have half the profits for buying shoes. I've never known a woman who can resist shoes. By the time she realizes that she won't be getting any shoes because there won't be any profits in breeding ball pythons maybe she will have gotten over her fears enough to let you keep them.

Maybe.

And to all you women wanting to throw your shoes at me for the sexists remark it was just a joke.

Maybe.

That's an awesome idea:)

Oooh! Fantastic idea! I hate shoes, but maybe she doesn't. And if she doesn't like shoes, well, there's always something she'll want the "glorious mounds of money" that come from breeding for. xD

If she has a caretaker's heart, find a snake that needs to be rescued. Even better if it's kinda a sad story.

Often, if it's viewed as "saving" the snake from a bad situation, the vantage point changed. Because really, is it still a "creepy, icky thing" if it's homeless, battered, and hungry??

I got one of my sorority sisters who routinely killed wild snakes with shovels to accept this "poor little starving corn snake that just needed someone to love him" without even a moments hesitation.

That corn snake is still with her today. And she still calls him, "my poor little unwanted baby"

There are some people that will never budge with snakes. Did you ever find out WHY she is afraid? Generally people with phobias like that will have very clear reasons. If you haven't, try to get to the source of her problem with them. Maybe she was bitten when she was younger, or another traumatic event. Maybe something else about them freaks her out aside from being 'evil' creatures. Have her watch video's online, too. From breeders and hobbyists. She won't have to be in the same room as them but she can see how people handle them, how lazy or active they are, etc. That's what attracted me to Ball Pythons-they're lazy and more cuddly and like lap dogs than corns or milks who are very active and move and wiggle a lot.

I second the Hognose suggestion. They're cute little creatures and I adore them. :)

She's selfish

My family raised me to hate snakes. 8 years ago my husband wanted a snake. I wasn't sure, but he's his own man and promised to take care of it *shrug* he's an adult. If it didn't affect me, why would i say no? That would be awfully selfish of me. We went to a reptile show and got a baby ball. I LOVED her. Now I am the one obsessed with snakes!
Point is...not only did it turn out that I enjoyed the animal, but I found my passion. That wouldn't have happened if I had been selfish.
I'd talk to your wife about give and take. Compromise, and selfishness. Not to mention, who is the breadwinner? Most families live off the men's salary. I think you should be able to spend your money how you wish, within reason. Unless you often break promises, she should trust you to deal with it all and enjoy it without it affecting her.

I do agree with others who have mentioned that perhaps some gentle dialogue may give the person fearful of snakes new perspective, and while pressuring or forcing someone is in my opinion not a good choice, gently talking about the reasons for the fear may help.

Hopefully you are not saying that if a woman chooses to stay home, perhaps spend time inside the home raising children, that her contributions are irrelevant and she should have no voice? Or do you actually believe that if only one person of either gender works outside the home, that person gets to make all the decisions? :face_palm_02:

My advice.... Get a new wife that likes snakes....lol

I'm totally kidding! My hubby hates spiders and would never have a tarantula in our home but I kept him...hahaha.

But seriously I think maybe if you could get her comfortable with lizards maybe even legless lizards then it may not be such a feat to get her to accept snakes
