In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi guys, Just looking for a few suggestions here. Just got my new hatchling racks (Thanks Paul Sage!), and its time to get some new supplies. I have been using plastic lids for water/food dishes, but would like to find something better, and the lids don't hold mealies very long. For adults I use the two sided cat dishes and cut them in half. But I'm looking for something that fits well in the shoebox tubs and is sturdy that isn't easily tipped over. And while we are on the topic, what does everyone use for hides in the shoebox racks? Thanks for any input.

Josh -
I use lids about the size of baby food jar lids for small mealworms. Some of the mealies do get out, but I don't want to take up any more room than that in my hatchling boxes. For the large tubs I use "peanutbutter jar" size lids and then for the adults I use some ceramic bowls that they sell at petco (I think they're about 1.99)

For hides I use clay pot holders. I bust a small piece out of the side. They work good to hold vitamins or calcium on top pretty well too.

I use lots of different kinds of dishes, I just recently got a great deal on some ceramic ramekins for $5 for 12, I use peanut butter jar lids, small deli cups, baby food jar lids and gatoraid lids (for calcium), votive holders (2 for $2) hmmm lots of different dishes.

you just have to figure out what works best for you!

Hides, deli cups, butter tubs, any plastic conatiner you can run through the dishwaher and reuse for FREE with a hole in the top so the humid hide stays humid longer.

Thanks guys, Paul I really like the clay pot hides, I think I will go check some of them out tomorrow.

I originally saw the clay pot hides at Albey's. Some people use hack saws to cut smooth holes in the side...I guess I lack the patience.

If you're looking for the small clay pots, check out hobby/craft stores. Hobby Lobby is usually pretty cheap.

I use these little bowls from the pet store - small mammal section. Two will fit in the front of a little hatchling shoe box - much more space efficient than the big peanut butter lids I was using for water. They do a fair job of containing mealworms. I still use little lids for food & water for brand new hatchlings, though. I really like the ceramic bowls, but these are a bit cheaper. Paul, I love those clay hides!
