Wes, valid points however...

This is the EXACT reason why when trading with someone you don't know you get them to ship first. wendy sent crap and she really should have known it and I think she did.
It is entirely possible that Wendy even has herself fooled.... but I doubt it.
Dan does not have the experiance, from what I have gathered, to know the difference between a very stressed out dragon and one knocking on deaths door. And he shouldn't have to know that difference. He should NEVER have been sent that lizard to begin with.
He does own bearded dragons, and based on how he described the dragon he recieved, he appears to have had all the clues needed to determine this animal was unwell.
Plus, he accepted the trade after having seen a picture of the animal. The same picture everyone here has blasted for showing a sick animal.
I'm sure the trade was a good deal, but come on.... between seeing the picture prior to trade and seeing the condition of the animal upon receipt, Dan should have called it off completely.
Had I recieved it I don't know if I would have taken it to the vet myself. I may well have set it up for a few days to see if it came around. ESPECIALLY after having the seller tell me how great the lizard was and how much it was eating and drinking.
Dan has stated that the animal was skinny and dehydrated upon receipt, I don't think I would be willing to believe the animal was eating and drinking much.
Wendy got nothing because her end of the deal was worth NOTHING.
In most people here's opinions, Wendy's end of the deal was worth nothing when Dan accepted the trade (upon seeing the picture)
I believe Dan got the lizard on thurs or fri and it was dead on monday. It's pretty hard to find a good reptile vet on the weekend. I know of two near me and niether of them are in on weekends.
I believe Dan got the animal Wednesday morning? That's three days plus possibly saturday (many vets are open saturday around here)
That lizard was DEAD four days after dan reiceved it.
Indeed. And Dan made no attempts to prevent it. He got a skinny animal with sunken eyes and diarrhea and waited for days to see if it would eat on its own. He made this choice rather than bringing it to the vet, sending it back, or attempting to nurse it himself.
Even if he had wanted to ship the day he got the dragon he shouldn't have. It would have been friday at best that his part of the trade went out which would mean a saturday delivery, very iffy, or sitting around until monday, very likely.
His part of the trade should have gone out the same day, or he should have refused to accept the animal on the same day.
I understand what its like to want something so badly that you blind yourself to its faults. Dan needs to own up to the mistakes he made and move on.
wendy shipped a near dead lizard that she had to know was practically dead. Dan, in part because he's young and probably inexperianced, didn't know right off just how bad that lizard was.
Agreed.
wendy is out a lizard that would have been dead soon had it stayed with her.
Quite likely. Shipping surely sent it over the edge.
Dan is out his new pet, now has the heartbreak of seeing one of his charges die and has had a total nutjob trying to tarnish HIS reputation when he really did nothing wrong except but into her sales pitch.
Dan is out breeding stock. His reputation can be judged based on his choice of conducting this trade in the first place, and how he handled it through the outcome.
From my point of view wendy is out nothing and Dan has had all the suffering on his end.
Sadly, Wendy seemingly conducts her business in this fashion. I would expect that Wendy would have turned around and tried to sell Dan's gecko. Wendy lost the chance to successfully pander her goods for a profit.
It's her right to conduct her business this way, although she will pay the price in many ways along the way.
The fact is that no matter how ill the animal was, Dan insisted on keeping it past Wendy's health guarentee.
There is no reason for Dan to have held onto the animal and not bring it to the vet. He had no obligation to do so after Wendy claims to have asked him to send it back the same or next day at her expense.
Welcome to the reptile world Dan, sometimes the water is a bit chilly.
Dan claims 13+ years of reptile experience, he's not new to this.
