    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

What camera do you use to take pics?

I recently got back some great pics i took of my geckos using my SLR camera. Problem is that in scanning them to the computer, i lose alot of the image colour and quality. I have a cheapy digital camera but it takes poor pics. I've been planning on buying a good digital camera but i'm still debating which one to buy. Currently i've been looking at the Minolta 3.3MP DiIMAGE Z1 and the Canon 3.2MP Powershot A75.

I'm in awe of the pics people have posted and would like to know which cameras you guys are using. I'd like to take closeups and something that can be used without alot of daylight (my geckos are downstairs).

Thanks all :)

And here is a Bell
It's funny but when looking at them close up like that all their eyes look about the same. Imagine what a T- albino leos eyes would look like! Whoa, I wonder if we will ever see one?

Canon

I use a Canon powershot A-40. I need to get the Macro lense set for the camera. I believe that most of the Canons have an adapter so that you can add lenses. I have also heard that the Nikons have excellent Macro function as well. Just remember when your dealing with technology. The minute you buy something its already obsolete. Go for Canon or Nikon!

Hey Kelli I use the same camera as you!

When Kelli says the Nikon CoolPix 4500 rocks, believe me it does. It’s 4 megapixels with a 4x digital zoom. It’s awesome! Like Chad says go with a Canon or Nikon.

Those are amazing for sure. Looks like i'll be going for the Nikon.

Definitely Nikon

I've had my Coolpix 995 for a few years now and still love it soooooooooo much. The only downside to it is it's pretty big. I was eyeing another smaller Nikon in the sale ads this weekend.

As Chad said, they're famous for their Macro functions. The only thing you need to do is get the right lighting. When you're less than an inch from something, the on-camera flash usually doesn't cut it; it washes out the subject. I keep asking my wife for a flash bracket, as I'm told those help regular (not 1" away) photography out a bit. Nikon also has a macro light ring that seems to work pretty well. I want to say Chris Newsom has one.

Here's a couple pictures from my Nikon.

Rob those pics are great. I like the mountain scene. Usually i take the pics i've got and paint from them so i need to be able to get shots with good details.

I'm more excited about getting the camera now more than ever. I do have my SLR and i've taken some great shots with it but not being able to get the pics on the computer with the same quality has been upsetting.

Does that camera allow you to see the pictures you've taken without having to download them to the computer first?

Thanks

Thanks. That's Mt. Fuji in the photo and I think it's probably my favorite picture. I've also got a few from Hiroshima that I like a bit.

I just looked at the Coolpix 4500 that Kelli and Chad are talking about. It's the successor to my 995, and I'm sure you'd be doing great to have that one. Check out The Rollbar for an off-camera flash when you want to get one. I can't remember where I was recommended it, but it is supposed to be a decent deal. Also, look into picking up a copy of Peter iNova's Nikon eBook. It's awesome when it comes to everything having to do with these cameras.

For some great info, pictures, reviews and stuff, check out the Nikon Forum over at DP Review.

These cameras have a lot of technical abilities that I'm sure you'll like having successfully used your SLR. To tell you the truth, I rarely go into Manual mode where you can change the exposure levels and such, but that's on my list of things to do(has been for a few years).

You can view the pictures on the viewfinder (little screen) on the back, or even plug the camera into your TV to check them out.

Thanks Rob :) I went out yesterday to see if i could find the Nikon Coolpix 4500. At least locally its not available. The 4100, 4200 and 5200 are all available though. I should have known checking out prices online would be useless......up here the prices are double what i've seen online (must be U.S. prices LOL). The 5200 is well over $800.

I'll be going down to the city to other photography and computer stores later this week. Hopefully i'll find the 4500. Maybe next weekend i'll be showing off my geckos hehehe :)

So many cameras, so little money hehe, could be said for other things as well.........so many geckos etc. hehe

I haven't seen any Fugi cameras i liked, but that doesn't mean they aren't good either. As for Canon, i heard the A80 was the newest one but that the A75 was alot better......go figure. I still want to get a digital SLR camera, Minolta, seeing as my lens would fit it. When i get off shift Friday morning i'll go searching, that is IF i can stay awake LOL. If not that will be my Saturday venture. Oh forgot, i might be going down to the Molson Indy that weekend so i'll have to see......

Thanks everyone for your input.
