Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I live in Murrieta! I don't know if Scales stocks iguanas, but you might want to look there, I highly recommend them for all reptile needs.

SoCalHerp i go to scales amost every other day and i have very rarely ever seen iguanas there other then the rhino iguanas a few months ago.

There is likely a good reason why, green iguanas are not the greatest pets.

seeing as how iggies are one of the hardest herps to care for, even for someone experienced, makes them not a great choice, why do you think they now have a "population" in florida?
i kept them for about 9 years, my 10 year old female passed a few months ago because of old age and i can honestly say i will never get another one, they are one of many herps that should not be kept in captivity, unless its at a sanctuary, i would steer clear of an iguana, get yourself a gecko of some sort, or a beardie
things that you need to take into consideration with an ig..they can be very aggressive, even if you've had it since it was a hatchling
they can grow to a size of 6' and a few inches, and can give you a NASTY tail whip
they will need a cage of at least 7'-8' tall, 6'-9' wide
they need expensive lighting, as well as a very advanced diet with proper supplementation
they are known to carry salmonella in their feces, if you dont wash your hads befor and after handling one, your taking a big risk
they require alot of attention, they are definitely not for someone that is out of the house for long periods of the day, every day
IMHO i think iguanas as well as venomous snakes should be left in the wild, to many have died, or become throw away pets, and its sad, because its caused by the ignorance and stupidity of humans
so please, re-consider getting one

I have to agree with dan here on this. I have seen iguana's so mean and vicious, that they make rattlesnakes look tame. Not to mention if they do bite you, instant salmonella poisioning.
There are a ton of herps out there that make excellent pets, other than iguana's. Though, granted some are more expensive than iguana's, but iguana's are so cheap, because they are not that great of a pet.

Has HSUS brainwashed you too? I've been working with herps for most of my life and I have yet to contract salmonella. Yes, I've been bitten by iguanas. Did I clean the bite? Not that I can remember. I don't even think salmonella can cause infection on a bite site. I only infected bit I've ever received was from a Varanus indicus, almost lost my finger that to one last year.

yeah, i was bitten pretty badly by a male i had a while ago, i dont believe i cleaned it, didnt get sick

Lots of herps carry solmonella. Avoiding infection is a simple matter of hygene. Illness is spread via the fecal to oral route. Basically if you're handling a herp wash you hands before eating, don't suck your thumb, don't kiss your iggy, don't let your lizard crawl on surfaces where food is prepared etc. A bite could get infected but the infection would be from bacteria on your skin or in the lizard's mouth, it would not be solmonella. For the most part, solmonella needs to get into your digestive tract to make you sick (vomitting, diarhea etc).

no one said all iggies were mean, i only had 4 that where psycho, and i've had over 20 lifetime
I think the question here was WHERE can he find one . I hope he did all the research needed before he decides to get one . But as far as salimanila it is in most all reptiles to one degree or another . you can get salamila from raw meats and other things as well ..... All a matter of hygen and washing your hands when you are done handling your reptiles iguana , turtle , snake etc .....
If I were you I would look around into adopting one tho . I adopted on from a lady in TX .
